Our client, a leading aerospace manufacturing business, is seeking an experienced Senior Quality Engineer to join its management team within a fast-paced sheet metal and assembly environment in the Northwest. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious quality professional looking to progress into a Quality Manager position within 12 months, subject to performance and business needs. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role, drive quality performance, continuous improvement, and team development while supporting business growth and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality & Compliance
    • Maintain and develop robust Quality Management Systems in line with aerospace industry standards, including AS9100 and ISO9001.
    • Ensure compliance with Integrated Management System (IMS) procedures and customer requirements.
    • Drive proactive quality improvements to reduce defects and improve overall performance.
    • Support MRB activities and non-conformance management processes.
    • Produce and review weekly and monthly quality metrics and reports.
    • Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
    • Support internal and external audits.
  • Leadership & Team Development
    • Lead and develop a team of Quality Engineers and Inspectors.
    • Promote a positive, high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement.
    • Identify training needs and support skills development across the team.
    • Allocate work effectively to ensure departmental objectives are achieved.
    • Represent the quality function in internal and external meetings.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Champion Lean Manufacturing principles including 5S and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Drive process improvements that enhance quality, efficiency and delivery performance.
    • Support cost reduction activities through waste elimination and process optimisation.
    • Monitor NCR trends and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Health, Safety & Environment
    • Promote a strong safety-first culture across the business.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Support environmental objectives and maintain awareness of ISO14001 requirements.
    • Identify opportunities to improve sustainability and reduce waste.
  • Operational Support
    • Work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
    • Maintain departmental capacity and resource planning.
    • Support business objectives through a flexible, hands-on approach.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience within aerospace manufacturing or a highly regulated engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001 and quality management systems.
  • Experience leading teams and driving performance improvements.
  • Background in sheet metal, fabrication, assembly or precision engineering environments.
  • Experience of audits, FAIRs, NCR management and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of manufacturing systems.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
