The Opportunity

Our client is a specialist engineering organisation developing advanced electronic and sensing technologies for complex, high-reliability applications. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an NPI Development Engineer to support the introduction of new products into manufacturing through the design and development of robust production test solutions. This role sits at the intersection of electronic engineering, test development, and manufacturing support, with a strong focus on designing and delivering test jigs and production test systems for complex electronic assemblies. The successful candidate will work closely with design engineering, production engineering, and manufacturing support teams to ensure products are efficiently transitioned from development into scalable, high-quality production. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on electronics, test system development, and cross-functional engineering collaboration, with some supporting software development for test automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop production test jigs and test equipment for new electronic products
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) from early concept through to production release
  • Collaborate with design engineering teams to ensure products are designed for testability and manufacturability
  • Develop and implement manual and automated production test systems in parallel with product development
  • Define, document, and maintain test procedures, specifications, and process documentation
  • Manage configuration control and versioning of test systems and test software
  • Support production teams with fault diagnosis, debugging, and test issue resolution
  • Work with production support engineers to improve test coverage, reliability, and efficiency
  • Contribute to project estimation and planning activities within the NPI function
  • Support and mentor junior engineers where required

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Design electronic test solutions and support PCB bring-up and validation activities
  • Develop and maintain software tools to support test automation and production efficiency
  • Create technical documentation including test specifications, procedures, and diagrams
  • Support validation and verification of new product introductions
  • Investigate and resolve issues in existing test systems and production processes
  • Support test equipment throughout its lifecycle, from development through to commissioning and production use

Technical Requirements

Candidates should have experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Software & Systems
    • C - Ability to debug and implement standard features
    • C++ - Understanding of object-oriented programming principles
    • C# - Ability to independently develop and maintain applications
    • Linux - Comfortable working in a command-line environment, building and running applications
  • Electronics / Test Engineering
    • Ability to interpret analogue and digital circuit designs
    • Experience designing or supporting electronic test equipment, test fixtures, or jigs
    • Understanding of manufacturing or production test environments

Essential Skills

  • Strong technical documentation capability
  • Experience working within code review or peer review processes
  • Experience supporting production or manufacturing engineering teams
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving ability
  • Good organisation and prioritisation skills

Essential Qualifications

Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
