An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fabricator / Fitter Technician to join a leading aerospace engineering organisation specialising in the modification, maintenance and customisation of rotary-wing aircraft.
Working within a highly skilled engineering team, you will play a key role in the manufacture, assembly, inspection and repair of aircraft structures and components. This position offers exposure to bespoke prototype development, retrofit programmes and production projects, supporting customers across defence, emergency services, specialist operations and VIP sectors.
This role would suit candidates from sheet metal fabrication, aerospace manufacturing, automotive repair, mechanical fitting, defence engineering or similar precision engineering backgrounds.
The Role
You will be responsible for manufacturing and assembling detailed sheet metal components to exacting engineering standards while supporting aircraft modification and maintenance programmes. Working from technical drawings and design data, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality aerospace solutions while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and airworthiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture detailed components from sheet metal to engineering specifications.
- Assemble fabricated parts and aircraft components.
- Inspect subcontractor-manufactured parts to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and quality requirements.
- Carry out structural repairs to aircraft and associated components.
- Apply protective finishes and coatings as required.
- Work closely with design engineers on prototype and development projects.
- Ensure all work complies with approved engineering data and aviation standards.
- Support aircraft modification and maintenance programmes.
- Assist with general hangar activities, including aircraft handling when required.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping and safety standards.
- Operate effectively within a highly regulated engineering environment.
- Adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum Level 2 qualification in Fabrication, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in a similar role such as: Sheet Metal Worker, Fabricator, Mechanical Fitter, Vehicle Body Repair Technician, Aerospace Structures Technician, Automotive Repair Technician.
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong manual fabrication and assembly skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces when required.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality standards.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable, organised and methodical approach to work.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to provide photographic examples or a portfolio of previous work.
Desirable Experience
- Aerospace or aviation manufacturing experience.
- Sheet metal fabrication to close tolerances.
- Structural repair techniques.
- Composite materials repair and manufacturing.
- Knowledge of aerospace fasteners, riveting and adhesive bonding techniques.
