We are recruiting for a Senior EC&I Design Engineer on behalf of an established engineering business specialising in advanced engineering and process solutions. The organisation delivers solutions across pharmaceutical, healthcare and other highly regulated industries, supporting environments where safety, compliance and operational performance are critical. This role will suit an experienced EC&I professional with strong design capability who is comfortable taking technical ownership of projects, mentoring others, and working across the full project lifecycle. You will play a key role in delivering innovative solutions within safety-critical and regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead EC&I design activities across multiple projects
- Produce and review design documentation including Functional Design Specifications (FDS), P&IDs, electrical schematics and associated engineering documentation
- Support projects through FEED, detailed design, FAT/SAT and delivery stages
- Drive standardisation and continuous improvement across designs and processes
- Support value engineering initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce costs
- Provide technical expertise to internal teams including engineering, field teams and sales teams
- Support design reviews and ensure designs comply with quality, safety and regulatory requirements
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
- Contribute to the ongoing development of processes and systems across the wider business
Requirements
- OND/HND/Degree qualification in Electrical, Controls or Instrumentation Engineering
- Proven EC&I design experience within a project environment
- Experience across FEED and detailed design activities
- Strong experience producing EC&I design documentation including FDS, P&IDs, electrical schematics and technical drawings
- AutoCAD experience for production of electrical and process drawings
- Knowledge of ATEX and hazardous area requirements
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and design risk principles
- Experience operating within regulated or safety-critical environments
- Senior-level capability with experience mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers
- Experience leading projects or ambition to progress into team leadership responsibilities
Desirable Experience
- Pharmaceutical, healthcare, nuclear, oil & gas, containment or other highly regulated industry experience
- Exposure to SIL, HAZOP, LOPA or functional safety principles
- Exposure to PLC/SCADA systems or wider automation environments
