Skilled CNC Machinist

Location: Burnley, Lancashire
Pay: £16.21 per hour plus shift allowance
Contract: Full-time, permanent

We are recruiting an experienced Skilled CNC Machinist to join an established engineering manufacturer in Burnley. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served engineer with CNC setting, operating and programming experience.

The position operates across a mixture of day, twilight and night shifts, so applicants must be flexible to work across the full rotating shift pattern.

The role

As a Skilled CNC Machinist, you will set and operate CNC machinery to manufacture high-quality components in line with engineering drawings, production targets and required tolerances.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Setting tools, fixtures and machine offsets

• Loading materials onto CNC machines

• Setting and operating CNC lathes and machining centres

• Programming and adjusting machines using Fanuc, Okuma or Mazak controls

• Machining stainless-steel components

• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings

• Measuring completed components using appropriate inspection equipment

• Working accurately to tight tolerances

• Completing quality and traceability documentation

• Identifying opportunities to improve machining and production processes

• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment

• Following lean-manufacturing and 5S principles

• Manually handling weights of up to 25 kg

The machinery used across the department includes Mori Seiki, Nakamura, Okuma and Star CNC machines, including lathes, milling machines, horizontal machining centres and sliding-head machines.

Skills and experience required

The successful candidate should have:

• Previous CNC setting and operating experience

• Experience programming with Fanuc, Okuma or Mazak controls

• Experience machining stainless steel

• The ability to set and adjust tools, fixtures and offsets

• Experience working to close tolerances

• The ability to read engineering drawings and quality plans

• Confidence using a range of measuring and inspection equipment

• A time-served engineering background or equivalent qualification

• Strong attention to detail and a right-first-time approach

• The ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Flexibility to work across day, twilight and night shifts

Experience machining stainless-steel billets, castings and pressings would be particularly advantageous.
