A growing precision engineering and inspection business is looking to appoint an experienced Metrology Engineer to join their team in Deeside. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in dimensional inspection, CMM programming and quality control to work on complex, high‑spec components for aerospace, defence, automotive and advanced manufacturing customers.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring parts meet exacting standards, supporting both internal production and customer projects, and working closely with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams.
What you’ll be doing:
- Carrying out dimensional inspection of components and assemblies using CMMs, FARO Arms, laser scanning systems and conventional metrology equipment.
- Creating, editing and optimising CMM programs using software such as PC‑DMIS, PolyWorks, MCOSMOS, Aberlink or similar.
- Reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, CAD models and GD&T requirements.
- Producing accurate inspection reports, FAIRs and other quality documentation.
- Supporting root cause analysis and non‑conformance investigations.
- Liaising with Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering teams to resolve dimensional and process issues.
- Completing first‑off, in‑process and final inspections.
- Supporting calibration and maintenance of metrology equipment.
- Contributing to continuous improvement across inspection and quality processes.
What we’re looking for:
- Previous experience as a Metrology Engineer, CMM Programmer or Senior Inspector.
- Strong understanding of GD&T.
- Experience using CMM equipment and portable metrology systems.
- Ability to read complex engineering drawings with confidence.
- Background in precision engineering, aerospace, automotive or defence manufacturing.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a high level of attention to detail.
- 3D scanning or reverse engineering.
- Knowledge of AS9100 or ISO9001.
- CAD experience.
- Experience with PolyWorks or PC‑DMIS.
Qualifications:
- Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline.
- Metrology or quality‑related certifications would be an advantage.
