Shift Manager – Remote Operations Centre
Location: South Yorkshire
Salary: £50,000 + £12,000 shift allowance
Shift Pattern: Rotating 6-week shift (days and nights) with 10 consecutive days off at the end of each cycle

About the Role
We are working with a leading global chemical manufacturing organisation to recruit an experienced Shift Manager for their state-of-the-art Remote Operations Centre (ROC). This role is critical to overseeing round-the-clock operations for multiple production sites across the UK, Ireland, and South Africa.
You’ll be based in a high-tech control room environment, working in a 24/7 operation that plays a pivotal role in process safety, plant performance, and business continuity across international sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage the safe and efficient operation of multiple chemical plants remotely
- Respond to alarms, manage plant upsets and initiate recovery strategies
- Support and lead plant start-up/shutdown procedures with minimal disruption
- Evaluate process data and KPIs to identify performance issues and implement improvements
- Make autonomous decisions in the absence of standard procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain a strong focus on process safety and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure operational targets are achieved
What We’re Looking For
- Background in heavy industry, ideally with experience in chemical, oil & gas, or manufacturing sectors
- Prior experience in a control room or DCS/SCADA-based environment is essential
- HNC (or higher) in Process, Chemical, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering OR equivalent experience
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to make operational decisions under pressure
- Comfortable working a 24/7 rotating shift pattern (including nights)
- Able to interpret P&IDs and process flow diagrams (PFDs)
- High attention to detail, proactive mindset, and excellent communication skills
