About the Role

We are working with a leading global chemical manufacturing organisation to recruit an experienced Shift Manager for their state-of-the-art Remote Operations Centre (ROC). This role is critical to overseeing round-the-clock operations for multiple production sites across the UK, Ireland, and South Africa. You’ll be based in a high-tech control room environment, working in a 24/7 operation that plays a pivotal role in process safety, plant performance, and business continuity across international sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage the safe and efficient operation of multiple chemical plants remotely
  • Respond to alarms, manage plant upsets and initiate recovery strategies
  • Support and lead plant start-up/shutdown procedures with minimal disruption
  • Evaluate process data and KPIs to identify performance issues and implement improvements
  • Make autonomous decisions in the absence of standard procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintain a strong focus on process safety and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure operational targets are achieved

What We’re Looking For

  • Background in heavy industry, ideally with experience in chemical, oil & gas, or manufacturing sectors
  • Prior experience in a control room or DCS/SCADA-based environment is essential
  • HNC (or higher) in Process, Chemical, Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering OR equivalent experience
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to make operational decisions under pressure
  • Comfortable working a 24/7 rotating shift pattern (including nights)
  • Able to interpret P&IDs and process flow diagrams (PFDs)
  • High attention to detail, proactive mindset, and excellent communication skills
