I'm recruiting for a Field Service Engineer to maintain and support critical technology across the UK motorway network.

This is a hands-on, field-based role involving the maintenance, fault-finding, repair, installation and commissioning of electrical and electronic equipment on motorways.

Applicants must have previous experience working on motorway technology or equipment installed on the motorway network. This role would suit an engineer who understands the demands of working on live motorway infrastructure and can confidently diagnose and resolve equipment faults with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment on the motorway network.
  • Diagnose faults, undertake repairs and test equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Support the installation, testing and commissioning of motorway technology and associated systems.
  • Undertake hardware, software and system checks as required.
  • Work safely on and alongside motorways, including working at height where necessary.
  • Complete maintenance records, test results and health and safety documentation.
  • Liaise with clients, operational teams and specialist subcontractors to coordinate site activities.
  • Support the Assistant Project Manager with project delivery and maintenance planning.
  • Ensure work meets relevant health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Travel to sites across the regional network and undertake night work where required.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working on motorway technology or equipment installed on the motorway network.
  • Practical electrical/electronic fault-finding, maintenance, repair or commissioning experience.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues independently and safely.
  • Willingness to travel across regional sites and work variable shifts, including nights.
  • Confidence working outdoors, roadside and at height.
  • Ability to successfully complete a basic DBS check.
  • ONC/HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • HERS registration or knowledge of HERS requirements.
  • Experience with motorway signs, traffic monitoring equipment or other motorway technology systems.
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors or supporting project delivery.
