An exciting opportunity has become available to work within a highly specialised service offering continence support, assessment and treatment to children and young people (4‑19 years) within Amber Valley, Erewash and South Derbyshire and Dales.
We are a professional, skilled and friendly team who work safely with our patients to provide innovative, high‑quality, evidence‑based continence care. The team are based at Alfreton Primary Care Centre, offering clinics within Amber Valley, Erewash, South Derbyshire and Dales and in special school settings. The working hours are 09:00 am‑17:00 pm, Monday–Friday. By joining this supportive and dedicated team you will have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of paediatric continence. Main focus of this job role:- Promote childhood continence across Derbyshire and Derby
- Complete initial and follow‑up continence assessment for children and young people on caseload
- Have a sound understanding of the components of a comprehensive and holistic assessment of a child or young person with continence difficulties
- Devise appropriate toileting programmes and/or treatment and management care plans for children and young people
- Work in collaboration with statutory and voluntary agencies regarding children and young people, including family, children protection plans (section 17, 47), and children in care
- Identify safeguarding concerns and take necessary action in accordance with the Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Board and Trust Safeguarding Children procedures
- Communicate effectively with children of all ages, parent/carers who may have a range of physical and/or psychological needs
- Adapt communication skills to take account of communication needs and differences in order to plan, deliver and evaluate care, applying enhanced communication skills both orally and in written information
- Act as an advocate and champion for children and young people
Our purpose is to provide community health services to a patient population of over one million people in Derbyshire and Derby, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire. We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.
The post holder will receive support from the wider team to provide care for children and young people with continence issues. They will manage a caseload primarily involving children and young people who experience night‑time wetting or have not achieved continence due to developmental reasons. The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload and will coordinate care throughout diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up.
Level 2 – Children’s Community Continence Service: Conducts thorough bladder and bowel assessments and treats children and young people aged 0–19 with bladder and/or bowel problems or delayed toilet training, when Level 1 universal interventions have not been effective.
