A Vacancy at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust. Join our team and develop your skills to their full potential whilst working towards the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians. We welcome applications from Pharmacy Support workers motivated to develop their career and who may be eligible for the Annex 30 NHS pay agreement.

The course is delivered by an accredited training provider over a 2 year fixed term period. We provide you with training and support to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician as well as developing a range of transferable skills. Achievement of this qualification and completion of the apprenticeship will enable you to apply for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a qualified Pharmacy Technician.

Once registered, you can apply for jobs across a variety of sectors, when opportunities become available in the competitive job market, either locally, in Trusts across the NHS or other organisations. Please ensure you read the supplementary information attached, about the various stages involved in becoming a registered Pharmacy Technician.

You can progress your career by gaining experience and moving into a variety of roles, specialising in areas such as mental health, frailty, information technology, education and leadership roles.

Please note: the salary advertised is for a band 4 post, however this apprenticeship is subject to annex 21. If the annex 21 renumeration is below the National Minimum Wage, the National Minimum Wage will be applied.

Work in accordance with Derbyshire Community Hospital Services (DCHS) Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures and with direct or indirect supervision to work as part of the Pharmacy Team to provide an effective patient‑focussed pharmacy service across specified areas. Undertake supervised training in the principles and practice of pharmacy, gaining the technical knowledge, skills and experience required to become a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

You will need to be committed to learning, be highly motivated and have good interpersonal skills. You will be based at Walton Hospital Pharmacy Department, working within the well‑established Medicines Management Team. The team consists of around 20 staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Support Staff, with a wide range of experience.

There is a requirement to travel from the base at Walton Hospital to support a variety of different services across Derbyshire Community Health Services (DCHS), which operate across approximately 9 community hospitals, 4 Urgent Treatment Centres, many clinics and health centres, as part of Joined Up Care Derbyshire.

The interview will be in two stages. All successfully shortlisted applicants will be invited to the first stage of the interview process on Tuesday 9th December 2025, which will involve a tour of the department, written assignment and calculation test. Successful applicants from stage one of the interviews, will be invited to a formal interview on Wednesday 17th December 2025.

We employ around 4,200 substantive staff, caring for patients in 11 community hospitals and more than 30 health centres, as well as in clinics, GP practices, schools, care homes and, increasingly, in people’s own homes and via virtual consultations.
