We’re now looking for an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join DCC Energy Great Britain on a 12 month fixed-term contract and provide strategic legal support across our diverse and growing portfolio of businesses.
The role
- Reporting to the Legal & Compliance Director, you’ll act as a senior strategic partner to the wider business and help support the day-to-day operation of the legal function alongside fellow senior legal colleagues.
- This is a broad and commercially focused in-house role, supporting multiple business units across Flogas Britain, Certas Energy and our EMS businesses.
- You’ll provide trusted legal, regulatory and compliance advice across a wide range of operational and strategic matters.
- This role offers exposure across commercial contracting, compliance, governance, regulatory engagement, M&A activity, property portfolio matters and legal transformation initiatives.
- You’ll also play an important role in supporting junior legal colleagues, improving legal processes and contributing to the continued adoption of legal technology and modern ways of working.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing practical and commercially focused legal advice to senior stakeholders across multiple business areas.
- Triaging legal matters and supporting escalation of strategic or complex legal risks.
- Supporting alignment of legal and compliance activity with wider DCC Group strategy.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of complex commercial agreements.
- Managing disputes and external counsel relationships.
- Supporting property and estates matters including leases, renewals and licences.
- Developing and maintaining legal templates, playbooks and contract processes.
- Supporting the continued development of legal technology and contract lifecycle management tools.
- Partnering with Risk, Assurance and HSEQ teams on governance and regulatory matters.
- Engaging with regulatory bodies including the CMA, ICO, HSE, FCA, OTC and Trading Standards.
- Mentoring and supporting junior legal team members.
- Delivering practical legal and compliance training across the business.
- Promoting collaborative and effective ways of working.
What we’re looking for
- Qualification as a solicitor or barrister in England & Wales.
- Typically 6–10 years’ post-qualification experience, including experience in a senior legal role.
- Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Broad legal and compliance experience across corporate, regulatory and operational matters.
- The ability to manage complex legal issues across multiple business areas and regulated sectors.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
- A practical and solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Experience within energy, utilities, infrastructure or other regulated sectors would be beneficial, but isn’t essential.
- Experience with legal technology, contract lifecycle management systems or process optimisation initiatives would also be beneficial.
