- Ways of Working: Hybrid (This role is predominantly home-based. Your contractual office will be the DC Thomson Meadowside Office. Occasional office attendance may be required for team gatherings, collaboration activities, key meetings and company events.)

How you’ll play a part:
Do you have a funny bone? Well, this role could be for you! DC Thomson is looking to recruit a talented Sub-editor to work across our flagship titles – Beano, The Dandy, Commando, The Broons and Oor Wullie.
What you’ll deliver:
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will collaborate closely with our design and editorial teams to create engaging content that resonates with our target audience. We’re looking for someone bursting with creativity and a sharp, witty sense of humour.
You must have a keen eye for detail and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines. This role involves working across multiple brands, each with distinct style guides and voices, so adaptability and versatility are essential.
On a weekly basis, you’ll write compelling copy, edit scripts, select jokes, respond to reader emails, and commission artwork as needed. Additionally, you’ll assist with organising competitions, ensuring full compliance with GDPR and relevant competition regulations.
The ideal candidate will have relevant skills and previous experience in publishing, particularly in comics or magazines. A degree or equivalent qualification is desirable but not essential.

What you’ll bring:
- The successful candidate is expected to be skilled in proofreading, copywriting and editing
- Super organised with strong attention to detail (a stickler for accuracy)
- Have a good understanding of comics, with a keen eye for comic art detail
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
- Have excellent communication skills
- Have experience within a publishing company, ideally working on comics
- Have a clear understanding of the DC Thomson titles and their audiences
- Be educated to a degree level or equivalent

This is a full-time, temporary position (fixed-term contract until 10th August 2026), working 35 hours per week. The duration of the contract is based on the return date of the current postholder, who has been seconded to a role covering a period of maternity leave. We offer a blend of home and office working. Your contractual office base will be the DC Thomson Meadowside Office. Occasional office attendance may be required for team gatherings, collaboration, key meetings and company events.
