Role Title: Reporter – The Press & Journal
Location: Inverness, UK
DC Thomson is looking for an ambitious, experienced reporter to join the live news team at The Press & Journal, leading our Live coverage in Inverness.
This role is for someone based in Inverness who knows their patch, understands their audience and has the contacts to deliver breaking news and exclusives that set the agenda at an exciting and transformative time for the city.
As a reporter, you will:
- Break news quickly and confidently, owning major stories as they develop
- Deliver a steady flow of high-quality exclusive stories rooted in strong local contacts
- Use your contacts book to get ahead of rivals and uncover stories others miss
- Follow through on stories, turning breaking news into deeper, agenda-setting coverage
- Use data, SEO and audience insight to maximise reach and engagement
- Build a visible presence in your patch and strong relationships with sources
- Work across formats including text, live blogs, video and audio
- Support distribution through SEO, push notifications and social media
Requirements
We’re looking for:
- An experienced reporter with a strong local contacts book
- A proven track record of breaking stories and delivering exclusives
- Excellent news judgement and a clear understanding of audience priorities
- Confidence working independently in a fast-paced live environment
- A strong understanding of analytics, SEO and digital storytelling
- The drive to compete, win stories and grow audience
- High level understanding of Scots Law and IPSO Editors’ Code of Practice
