An exciting opportunity has risen for a Fashion Director to join the editorial team for Stylist in the Advocacy Community! The editorial team work at pace, producing content for our audience across all platforms print, digital (free and paid), email, social and events.

Role summary:

As the acting Fashion Director, you will work closely with the editors and advertising team to elevate Stylist’s fashion credentials. Your role will also include the following:

  1. Creating fashion content for the magazine and across all platforms as required (print; digital; video; social) ensuring that it is market leading, talked about and desirable for the audience and the advertisers wishing to reach them.
  2. Taking the lead on fashion shoots that adhere to the magazine’s aspirational standard.
  3. Building and maintaining great working relationships with advertisers and ensuring you understand and manage their needs.
  4. Co-managing the Fashion Assistant and attending events as/when required.

Requirements

What to expect:

This is an engaging and busy role that will see you manage all of Stylist’s editorial fashion content. You will shoot, collate, commission and write the main fashion print story each month as well as overseeing all fashion content created for digital to ensure it is on-brand, right for our audience and commercially sound. You will be a key ambassador for the brand, attending press days, dinners and events, as well as hosting events as required and appearing in Stylist’s fashion social media content.

Accountabilities and responsibilities:

  1. Plan and compile strong, relevant fashion content in the magazine ensuring that we always feature the strongest, stand-out items from all brands and that commercial clients are considered at all times.
  2. Create the main fashion story each issue and oversee fashion content elsewhere including in the Stylist Loves section, Style List, fashion franchises and any other additional content as required.
  3. Write one fashion story a week for Stylist.co.uk as agreed and to the KPIs as instructed.
  4. Agree the fashion stories that the Fashion Writer and Fashion and Beauty Assistant should also focus on each week.
  5. Work with the Email Editor to agree fashion stories that they should focus on every week.
  6. Appear in and create social content as/when required.
  7. Ensure we credit and support our advertisers in our content, collaborating closely with the commercial team on any potential advertising, sponsorship or advertorial opportunities you may be aware of.
  8. Arrange and direct shoots, where required, for celebrities and fashion pages, creating ideas, mood boards and concepts whilst keeping within budget.
  9. Manage the fashion desk, liaising with production and art and final proofing of pages, ensuring all call-ins and returns are well organised.
  10. Work with the Editors to ensure that all relevant trends are covered on the relevant platforms in clever and innovative formats, while staying abreast of all product launches, new trends, store launches and collaborations.
  11. Attend all necessary press days, launches and commercial meetings, as well as shows and overseas press trips as/when required.
  12. Work with the Editors and art team to plan, sketch, create and evolve exciting new visual concepts to ensure Stylist’s fashion pages are shot, designed and executed in the best possible way.
  13. Strengthen and forge new, where necessary, industry contacts and relationships in order to elevate our reputation in the industry and untap new revenue streams and partnership opportunities.
  14. Play a key ambassadorial role for Stylist, hosting events and appearing in multimedia content as required.
  15. Maintain a large contact book of PRs, brand managers and photographers, and harness relationships that will be of benefit to Stylist.
  16. Apply SEO knowledge and experience to all posts published.
  17. Monitor your work post-publication and strive to hit ambitious digital targets.
  18. Stay abreast of all competitor fashion activity and innovation across all platforms.
  19. Use forward planning tools and insights to ensure Stylist content remains ahead of fashion trends, seasonal events and cultural moments.
  20. Ensure there is adequate cover and a thorough handover when on trips or annual leave.

Essential knowledge, skills and attributes:

The ideal candidate:

  1. Has a keen interest in fashion.
  2. Has good relationships with key PRs.
  3. Has knowledge and experience of social tools and programming and analytics.
  4. Is well-organised and able to juggle lots of different deadlines whilst working at pace.
  5. Has the ability to work collaboratively and creatively with the wider editorial team.
