ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to: Production Manager
Location: Dundee or Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Ways of Working: UK, Hybrid (at least 1 day a week in the office/every Tuesday)
Contract Type: Fulltime, Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) until 10th October 2026
ROLE PURPOSE
The opportunity: DC Thomson is looking for a Sub-Editor to play an important role within our Companionship production team. Reporting into a Production Manager, Sub-Editors will work across allocated brands including The People's Friend and My Weekly, ensuring the publication of high quality, accurate and engaging content in line with style guides of the publication.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working closely with the Production Managers, the central design team and editorial staff in contributing to the delivery and publication of titles both ongoing/regular publishing as well as ad hoc publications.
- Responding to business needs, working across brands showing a flexibility and ability to adapt to different styles, systems and audiences.
- Working to agreed production and approval schedules.
- Sub-editing content with meticulous attention to detail.
- Writing, rewriting, editing and proofreading text ensuring that stories are the right length.
- Writing compelling display lines that suit house style and appeal to the target audience.
- Verifying information and story details to confirm accuracy of stories and that they meet legal requirements.
- Liaising with in-house editorial and design staff to ensure transfer of accurate copy and timely submission in accordance with agreed procedures.
- Assisting Editors/Content Editors when necessary with completion and delivery of content to print or digital platforms.
- Using page layout, image editing and approved AI software where appropriate.
- Displaying a willingness to undertake any training required to improve skillset across software and familiarity of brand style guidelines.
