We’re looking for an HR Intern to support our People Operations team by delivering efficient, accurate and people‑focused operational services. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on HR experience in a dynamic environment and to contribute to the continuous improvement of our people processes. This role will be on a 6 month fixed term contract basis.

Working closely with the Head of People Operations and the wider People team, you’ll be a key point of contact for colleagues, helping ensure their experience at DC Thomson is smooth, supportive and compliant. You’ll support a broad range of People Operations activities, including:

  • Employee onboarding, ensuring contracts, Right to Work checks and documentation are completed accurately and on time
  • Acting as a first point of contact for new starters and ongoing employee queries via the People Team mailbox
  • Maintaining and updating employee records in line with GDPR and data protection requirements
  • Supporting compliance activities, HR reporting and audits
  • Managing and tracking contingent workers, including issuing freelancer paperwork and supporting IR35 compliance
  • Raising and managing purchase orders and invoices through Business Central
  • Supporting administration of the Driver Management system
  • Providing ad hoc administrative support to the Payroll team
  • Actively identifying opportunities to improve, automate and simplify People processes and system use

We’re looking for someone who is organised, detail‑focused and keen to develop a career in HR or People Operations. You’ll bring:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and manage your own workload
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and compliance
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • A strong sense of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in an HR or administrative role
  • Familiarity with HR systems or people data
  • An understanding of employment administration or compliance processes
  • A CIPD‑accredited qualification (e.g. CIPD Level 5 or relevant postgraduate study)
