About the Role Objectives: As Associate Editor, you will support and collaborate with the Editor (print) and Deputy Editor (print) in the editing, commissioning and overseeing of the monthly print magazine to the highest possible standard. Your role will also include the following:
- Originating, planning, commissioning and editing compelling features content across all platforms
- Being the features lead for Stylist magazine, taking responsibility for features and regular franchises
- Taking a lead role in growing memberships to Stylist + and Stylist VIP through the commissioning and editing of paywall content
- Ensuring all content is accurately written to brief, on deadline and targeted to our intelligent, female-identifying audience and the aspirational advertisers wishing to reach them
Key Responsibilities:
- For print, to ensure features and regulars are commissioned well in advance of deadlines, working across three live flatplans at once
- To oversee the Stylist Loves section of the magazine from ideation and layout to commissioning and editing
- To edit and file all regular franchise pages of the print issue
- To write, edit and build the weekly Stylist VIP group chat newsletter
- To edit, commission and take a lead role in the creation of the weekly Stylist+ covers and cover stories
- To ensure all copy is filed on time and to the standard expected of Stylist magazine, with special attention to tone, heads, sells and visuals (as discussed with art/picture teams)
- To generate unique, exciting and exclusive digital feature ideas, and see them through from pitch to publication
- To write features, conduct interviews and create any additional content as required
- To oversee Stylist campaigns (Love Women, Every Loss Counts) and ensure our content is reflective of our advocacy goals
- To manage members of the Stylist Editorial team, supporting and developing them in line with Stylist OKRs
- To manage the print team staffing costs making sure invoices are processed and holiday/sickness cover comes within budget
- To apply thorough SEO knowledge to all digital content, monitor reach and strive to hit KPI targets
- To be pivotal in ideas meetings for features, concept covers, campaigns and visuals
- To build and maintain relationships with freelance writers, and to talent-spot new voices
- To represent the Stylist brand at events or in the media as required
Secondary Responsibilities:
- To oversee any other Stylist brand project as required
- To work closely with the editors, maintaining a good flow of information, attending meetings fully prepared with visual material where possible
- To maintain a clear understanding of the Stylist readers and advertisers at all times, and ensure that all pages meet their needs
- To use forward-planning tools to maintain awareness of upcoming events and launches that could inform content
- To work with the social team to ensure all content is published across the Stylist platforms in a timely and brand-relevant manner
- To maintain great relationships with key contacts, experts and PRs to ensure continued access to exclusive opportunities
- Where necessary, manage a commissioning budget
