About the role:
This is a high-impact finance role that will act as a key strategic partner to both the Technology function and the History Community leadership team, ensuring financial accountability, optimising investments, and driving sustainable growth. You will play a crucial role in supporting the Technology function by optimising non-staff and people costs, while also ensuring strong financial governance, investment appraisals, and long-term sustainability for the History Community.
This broad-ranging role is well-suited for a proactive, commercially-minded finance professional who is comfortable working with senior Technology stakeholders, influencing business strategy, and ensuring a robust understanding of the financial implications of these activities on the trading performance.
This role provides a unique opportunity to blend financial strategy, business partnering, and commercial insight across two dynamic areas of the business. You will shape financial decision-making, optimise investments and drive efficiency in both Technology and History Community operations, working alongside key business leaders to create long-term success.
You will be responsible for:
- Working with the Technology Leadership team and Finance colleagues to drive value through an integrated Strategic and Annual plan, as well as supporting budget reviews, key bottom-up planning and assumptions, and alignment of contractual cost plans and targets.
- Driving improvements in analysis and understanding of the investment in Technology people, including allocation of resource, and the value built through this investment to help support and drive improved management decision-making.
- Reviewing and challenging business cases for Technology investments, ensuring the costs, requirements, and benefits are fully understood, and incremental spend in Technology to save money elsewhere in the business is appropriately identified.
- Working effectively with finance colleagues to deliver meaningful, actionable, and insightful analytics through Management and Board Packs.
- Working with leadership to ensure strong oversight of their area with detailed risks and opportunities around overall Technology investment in people.
- Delivering ad hoc financial modelling and analysis to support innovation and business decision-making.
- Identifying and delivering efficiency savings across the cost base.
- Driving process improvements and simplification of the finance operating model, working with finance teams across the end-to-end planning and reporting of Technology people investments.
- Helping to develop Financial Awareness across the Technology team.
You will need:
- A strong understanding of both Technology and Content-driven businesses, with the ability to bridge finance and operations.
- Curiosity, resilience, and a proactive approach to financial problem-solving and decision-making.
- The ability to work independently and drive the finance agenda, influencing senior leadership with data-driven insights.
- A recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent) (please note: this is a highly essential requirement for the role, and proof and verification of qualification or active membership will be required at the final interview stage).
- Strong financial modelling, data interpretation and analytical skills to support business decisions.
- Commercial awareness and strategic vision, with a focus on value creation and sustainable growth.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing at Executive and Board level.
- Experience in investment appraisal, contract negotiations, and resource allocation.
