Job Summary
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing business for a skilled and adaptable Welder Fabricator. This role focuses on the welding and fabrication of steel and stainless steel components used in high-quality products and installations. This is a varied position requiring flexibility. While welding is the primary responsibility, workloads may fluctuate. During quieter welding periods, the successful candidate will be expected to support other areas of the business, including workshop operations, site installation, production, and deliveries.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out MIG and TIG welding of mild steel and stainless steel to a high standard
- Fabricate components including T-sections, box sections, frames, brackets, door handles, and bespoke metalwork
- Read and accurately interpret fabrication drawings, technical specifications, and cutting lists
- Prepare, assemble, grind, polish, and finish fabricated components, including primer painting where required
- Inspect completed work to ensure weld integrity, dimensional accuracy, and high-quality finish
- Set up, operate, and maintain welding and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently
- Ensure the workshop remains clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety standards, including proper use of PPE
- Assist with loading/unloading materials, moving stock, and preparing items for dispatch or installation
- Support installation teams on site when required, including working as a fitter’s mate
- Assist production teams or support deliveries during quieter periods within the welding function
- Monitor stock levels of materials and consumables and communicate requirements to the relevant team
- Work to deadlines and communicate any issues, delays, or quality concerns promptly to management
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Handle heavy materials safely using correct manual handling techniques and equipment
- Assist with troubleshooting, snagging, and remedial works in both workshop and site environments
- Maintain tools, equipment, vans, and work areas in a clean and presentable condition
- Provide general support across fabrication, production, installation, and logistics as required
- Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with business needs
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Proven experience in a welding and fabrication role
- Strong working knowledge of MIG and TIG welding, particularly with mild steel and stainless steel
- Experience working with architectural metalwork, glazing, or similar industries (desirable)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication details accurately
- High attention to detail and pride in producing quality finished work
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Good understanding of workshop safety, risk awareness, and PPE requirements
- Physically capable of manual handling and supporting site-based work when required
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work, with willingness to support multiple departments
- Full UK driving licence (desirable but not essential)
