A well-established engineering organisation operating across the UK water and environmental sectors is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join its growing team.

Locations: Luton / Edmonton / Hoddesdon / Dartford

Salary: £20–£21 per hour

Working Hours: 7:00am–17:00pm

Contract: Permanent PAYE Pay: 48 hours per week

The Role

As a Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, servicing, and repair of mechanical equipment and systems across a range of water, infrastructure, and environmental sites. You will work as part of a professional engineering team, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing mechanical equipment
  • Fault finding and troubleshooting mechanical systems
  • Working on pumps, motors, pipework, valves, and associated equipment
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Supporting reactive and emergency maintenance works when required
  • Completing risk assessments and following method statements
  • Ensuring all work complies with company procedures and health and safety standards
  • Working independently and as part of a wider engineering team

Requirements

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent mechanical engineering qualification
  • Previous experience in an on-site mechanical engineering environment
  • Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, pipework, valves, and mechanical systems
  • CSCS card or equivalent
  • Additional tickets such as EUSR, IPAF, PASMA, Confined Space, or Abrasive Wheels would be advantageous but are not essential
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
