We are currently looking for a Fitter’s Mate to join our team. Experience in glazing is preferred but not essential. We are open to candidates with a construction background, a good understanding of tools, and basic health & safety knowledge. A clean driving licence is highly desirable.
As a Fitter’s Mate, you will assist with the on-site installation of glass and framework systems. You’ll be involved in site prep, material handling, framework assembly, and silicone application.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Load and unload tools/materials
- Keep work areas clean and organised
- Clear the site at the end of each day
- Assist with handling and storing glass deliveries
- Help with framework assembly tasks (measuring, cutting, fitting)
- Read and interpret basic technical drawings for minor on-site fabrication
- Apply silicone sealant to an acceptable standard with guidance
- Assist fitters closely; follow detailed instructions
- Participate in basic installation tasks with supervision
- Apply silicone sealant independently and professionally
- Operate site equipment (e.g., sucker machines)
- Install flashings and claddings from technical drawings
- Carry out quality checks and take completion photos
- Prioritise tasks and handle on-site issues with minimal supervision
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Background in construction (required)
- Familiarity with hand/power tools
- Basic knowledge of health & safety
- Physically fit and capable of manual work
- Strong time management and communication
- Professional appearance
- Clean driving licence (Required)
Working Conditions
- Hours: 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM (subject to change based on site/location needs)
- Breaks: 1 hour total — 2 x 15 min paid, 1 x 30 min unpaid
- Pick-up/Drop-off: Office Quarter (daily)
- Work is physically demanding and site-based PPE provided
Salary & Benefits
- £13 – £18 per hour, depending on experience (DOE)
- 20 days holiday, plus 1 additional day per year after 4 years of continuous service
- Bonus scheme (paid twice yearly)
