This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in manufacturing or production who enjoys taking responsibility, leading a team and ensuring production targets are consistently achieved.

The successful candidate will take an active role in both managing the production team and working hands-on with machinery. We are looking for someone who can establish clear expectations, keep staff focused and motivated, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately and efficiently.

You do not need previous experience operating pharmaceutical tablet-making machinery, as training can be provided. The key is having the right leadership approach, a strong work ethic and the ability to manage people and production effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Planning and Targets

  • Lead daily morning meetings to communicate production plans, priorities and individual responsibilities.
  • Set clear tasks, production targets and expectations for the team.
  • Monitor progress throughout the shift, ensuring deadlines and production targets are met.
  • Identify delays, investigate issues and take proactive steps to minimise downtime.
  • Work closely with management to review production performance and improve efficiency.
  • Ensure staff have the equipment, information and resources needed to complete their work.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Supervise and lead production staff, maintaining a professional and accountable working environment.
  • Set clear boundaries and expectations, addressing performance concerns and challenging staff when necessary.
  • Monitor individual and team performance, timekeeping, attendance and productivity.
  • Ask questions, identify the reasons behind performance issues and explore practical solutions.
  • Provide guidance and support while ensuring staff take responsibility for their work.
  • Identify training needs and help develop employees' skills and confidence.
  • Organise workloads and help ensure adequate staffing cover.

Hands-On Production and Machinery

  • Assist with the setup, operation and monitoring of production machinery.
  • Learn to operate and maintain specialist tablet-manufacturing equipment.
  • Monitor machine performance and identify potential faults or production issues.
  • Coordinate machine changeovers and tooling changes to minimise downtime.
  • Carry out routine safety checks and basic maintenance where trained and authorised.
  • Ensure machinery, tools and work areas are cleaned and maintained appropriately.

Quality, Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure production activities meet company quality standards and relevant Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, hygiene, cleanliness and attention to detail.
  • Ensure production records, logbooks and batch documentation are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure staff follow the correct procedures and are appropriately trained.
  • Identify and report quality issues, deviations or non-conformities promptly.
  • Work with the quality team and management to investigate problems and implement improvements.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are followed.

What We Are Looking For:

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong leadership skills and the confidence to manage and challenge staff professionally.
  • The ability to set clear targets, delegate tasks and hold people accountable.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to ask questions and consider alternative solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and a willingness to learn new machinery.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to lead daily team briefings.
  • A strong understanding of workplace safety, quality procedures and hygiene standards.

Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or GMP environments would be beneficial, but experience with the specific machinery is not essential, as training can be provided.

The Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for someone who understands the importance of balancing effective people management with hands-on production work. You should be comfortable making decisions, setting expectations and addressing issues directly, while remaining fair, professional and supportive.

You will take ownership of production performance, encourage accountability across the team and continually look for ways to improve efficiency, quality and working practices.
