The Cables and Distribution Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation, maintenance, and readiness of all cable and power distribution assets required for client projects. The role involves hands‑on workshop activity, including equipment preparation, repair, testing, and stock control, ensuring assets are safe, compliant, and available to meet demanding delivery schedules. Working closely with workshop teams, Operations teams, production teams, and account managers, the post holder contributes directly to the successful delivery of live events by ensuring cable and distribution equipment is prepared correctly and on time. Through consistent use of the stock management system (HireHop) and adherence to company procedures and safety standards, the role supports stock accuracy, operational efficiency, and high‑quality service delivery across the business.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Equipment Preparation and Quality Control: Prepare cable and power distribution equipment accurately and methodically to job specifications. Follow established preparation procedures and checklists to minimise errors. Take personal responsibility for the quality and completeness of prepared equipment.
- Maintenance, Repair, and Asset Care: Carry out routine inspection, testing, fault‑finding, and prep‑level repairs on cable assets. Identify damaged or unsafe equipment and take appropriate action in line with procedures.
- Stock Management and System Use: Use the stock management system (HireHop) daily to view job requirements and allocate equipment accurately. Maintain accurate system records to support planning and utilisation.
- Collaboration and Operational Support: Work closely with workshop teams, Operations teams, production teams, and account managers. Respond flexibly to changing priorities and peak workload demands.
- Health, Safety, and Compliance: Work in line with all Health and Safety legislation and company procedures. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Professional Standards and Continuous Improvement: Follow company policies and procedures at all times. Contribute to improvements in preparation quality, safety, and efficiency.
Defining Success in this role: Success in the Cables and Distribution Technician role is demonstrated through consistent delivery of safe, accurate, and well‑prepared equipment that supports smooth project execution, including during periods of high operational demand. The post holder maintains quality and safety standards in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure operational environment and demonstrates flexibility and resilience when increased workload or overtime is required.
Technical Skills: Ability to learn technical preparation, inspection, and repair tasks related to cable and power distribution equipment. Basic awareness of safe working practices, or the ability to learn and apply electrical safety principles. Ability to learn and accurately use the stock management system (HireHop) and workshop tools.
Professional Skills: Willingness to learn and apply feedback, strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work collaboratively and professionally in a high‑pressure operational environment. Able to manage workload effectively, remain calm during peak periods, and adapt to changing priorities.
Experience & Qualifications: No formal technical qualifications are required at starting tech grades in this role but would be an advantage. Candidates may come from a range of operational, service, or warehouse backgrounds. Training and development will be provided to build the technical skills, safety competence, and system knowledge required for the role.
