We are looking for an experienced Principal Process Engineer to lead the delivery of high-quality, complex chemical engineering design and technical work across DBD and client organisations. In this role, you will act as a technical authority and trusted advisor, ensuring engineering outputs meet regulatory, safety, and commercial requirements while aligning with industry best practice. You will play a key role in maintaining and developing the technical capability of the business, supporting both project delivery and strategic growth. This includes leading multidisciplinary teams, driving innovation and continuous improvement, and contributing to business development activities.
What you will be doing:
- Lead the definition and delivery of significant process engineering scopes, ensuring high standards of technical quality and compliance.
- Produce, review, and approve a wide range of technical deliverables including calculations, reports, P&IDs, flow diagrams, and design substantiation.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant legislation, safety, environmental, and security standards within nuclear and wider process industries.
- Act as a technical authority, providing guidance, oversight, and approval of work produced by others.
- Plan and manage engineering resource requirements, ensuring teams are suitably qualified and capable of delivering project needs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance processes, performance, and best practice.
- Lead strategic planning activities, anticipating future challenges and opportunities to support business growth.
- Support business development through technical input to bids, proposals, and client presentations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, representing DBD in customer forums.
- Mentor and develop engineering teams, identifying training needs and supporting professional development.
- Contribute to technical publications, industry engagement, and the promotion of DBD’s capabilities.
Formal qualifications or training:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Chemical Engineer status (or working towards) is essential.
- Fellowship of a relevant professional institution (e.g. IChemE) is desirable.
- Extensive experience across a range of chemical engineering processes and equipment, ideally including nuclear sector knowledge.
- Strong experience delivering and reviewing complex technical engineering work.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage resources, and deliver across multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, engineering standards, and design governance.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
