Introduction: DB Cargo UK is recruiting an Operations Supervisor in the Hinksey area to join our operational groundstaff team. As an Operations Supervisor, you will be overseeing the preparations of our train, responsible for the day-to-day running of our depots and managing our teams of Drivers and Mobile Operatives.

What you will be doing? The role of Operations Supervisor is hands-on and requires commitment, dedication, forward planning and problem solving. You will be responsible for the management of Drivers, Mobile Operatives and Terminal Support Workers (location dependent) throughout their shift to ensure all trains depart safely and efficiently to customer needs. You will work with the Operations Manager to plan all site operations ensuring they are carried out safely and efficiently, following site rules and regulations. You will also be working alongside the rostering and planning teams ensuring you have the correct numbers of staff to facilitate each shift. Planning of multiple trains arriving and departing the depot, you will also be involved in the preparations and shunting of the trains overseeing that safety checks are completed to the highest standards before a train departs your depot. You will also liaise with our engineering teams to report defects either with the locomotives or wagons, ensuring that any traffic leaving your depot is safe for the mainline. As the PIC (person in charge) of your depot, you will be responsible for visitors/customers attending your depot and ensuring they adhere to depot rules, regulations and have the correct PPE for the location.

What are we looking for? We are looking for someone with experience in people management, able to problem solve effectively and committed to upholding a safe and efficient workplace for all employees and customers. You will be well organised, able to forward plan and communicate well with others to ensure the smooth running of traffic in and out of the depot. You will be comfortable with Microsoft Office and digital reporting tools, willing to travel occasionally to other DB Cargo UK sites nationwide. Have a flexible approach to shift working, with experience in team working/lone working and be able to work outside in all weather. You will have had previous experience within a rail, logistics or industrial background within a safety-critical environment.

Requirements for the role:

  • Candidates must hold a valid manual driving license
  • Live within a 1-hour commute of the central hub location for the area
  • A-Levels or equivalent
  • Previous Team Leader/Supervisory role
  • Be committed to learning in a classroom-based environment through training (5-week course)
