Overview

Job Title: Support Worker – Children\’s Residential Services (EBD) | Location: Bexley, London | Home Reports to: Registered Manager / Deputy Manager | Hours: Shift-based (including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins/waking nights as required)

Job Purpose

The Support Worker will provide high-quality, child-centred care and support to children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) living in a residential setting. The role focuses on safeguarding, promoting emotional wellbeing, supporting positive behaviour, and helping children achieve stability, independence, and positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide safe, consistent, and nurturing care in line with care plans and risk assessments.
  • Build positive relationships and support children\’s emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Use therapeutic approaches to manage behaviour and promote independence and life skills.
  • Safeguard children by recognising and reporting concerns in line with procedures.
  • Support daily living tasks, including personal care, activities, and maintaining a homely environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with the team and professionals.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met, including checks, medication, and emergency procedures.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience working with children or young people with EBD, trauma, or challenging behaviour OR strong transferable skills.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Ability to remain calm, resilient, and professional under pressure.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and nights.
  • Enhanced DBS check (Children\’s Barred List) – required.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children and Young People (or willingness to work towards).
  • Experience in residential children\’s homes.
  • Training in trauma-informed care, de-escalation, or PBS.
  • Knowledge of the Children\\\’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
  • Comprehensive induction programme.
  • Ongoing mandatory and specialist training (Safeguarding, EBD, Trauma, Behaviour Management).
  • Regular supervision and annual appraisal.
