Job Title: Support Worker β Children\βs Residential Services (EBD) | Location: Bexley, London | Home Reports to: Registered Manager / Deputy Manager | Hours: Shift-based (including evenings, weekends, sleep-ins/waking nights as required)
Job Purpose
The Support Worker will provide high-quality, child-centred care and support to children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) living in a residential setting. The role focuses on safeguarding, promoting emotional wellbeing, supporting positive behaviour, and helping children achieve stability, independence, and positive outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide safe, consistent, and nurturing care in line with care plans and risk assessments.
- Build positive relationships and support children\βs emotional and behavioural needs.
- Use therapeutic approaches to manage behaviour and promote independence and life skills.
- Safeguard children by recognising and reporting concerns in line with procedures.
- Support daily living tasks, including personal care, activities, and maintaining a homely environment.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with the team and professionals.
- Ensure health and safety standards are met, including checks, medication, and emergency procedures.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working with children or young people with EBD, trauma, or challenging behaviour OR strong transferable skills.
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Ability to remain calm, resilient, and professional under pressure.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and nights.
- Enhanced DBS check (Children\βs Barred List) β required.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children and Young People (or willingness to work towards).
- Experience in residential children\βs homes.
- Training in trauma-informed care, de-escalation, or PBS.
- Knowledge of the Children\\\βs Homes (England) Regulations 2015
- Comprehensive induction programme.
- Ongoing mandatory and specialist training (Safeguarding, EBD, Trauma, Behaviour Management).
- Regular supervision and annual appraisal.
