Job Description
MedSurg Elective Care Limited is an innovative clinical insourcing provider, established to support NHS Trusts in tackling elective care waiting lists with high-quality, safe, and sustainable solutions. We deliver consultant-led surgical and medical services directly within NHS settings, using a robust, governance-led model that aligns with CQC standards and NHS England frameworks.

We are now seeking a senior, experienced, and visionary Medical Director to join our leadership team at a critical phase of growth and innovation.
Role Overview
The Medical Director will serve as the most senior clinical leader within the organisation. This is a strategic and operational role, responsible for the delivery of high-quality care across all clinical programmes, the establishment of robust clinical governance systems, and the professional leadership of our growing consultant workforce.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Governance & Patient Safety
- Develop, lead, and continuously improve the company’s clinical governance framework.
- Chair the Clinical Governance Committee and oversee clinical audit, serious incident (SI) reviews, risk registers, and lessons learned processes.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, including GMC standards, CQC regulations, Information Governance (IG), and safeguarding requirements.
- Drive a culture of clinical excellence, transparency, and continuous quality improvement across all service lines.
Strategic Clinical Leadership
- Shape the clinical direction of the organisation in collaboration with the executive team.
- Provide input into service design, care pathways, innovation, and quality metrics for insourced NHS care.
- Oversee clinical risk and ethics within new models of care and commercial partnerships.
- Support the strategic evaluation of new specialties, partnerships, and contract opportunities.
Medical Workforce Leadership
- Provide senior leadership to the medical workforce, including consultants, nurses, and AHPs.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment, credentialing, appraisal, and revalidation processes.
- Act as Responsible Officer or collaborate with a partner RO to ensure revalidation compliance and professional standards are maintained.
- Promote clinician wellbeing, learning, and engagement throughout the workforce.
External Engagement & Partnership Building
- Act as the clinical ambassador for MedSurg with NHS Trusts, commissioners, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), regulators, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure effective clinical integration with host NHS sites, including adherence to site protocols, shared care models, and patient pathway alignment.
- Contribute to contract mobilisation and client onboarding by advising on service readiness, clinical safety, and pathway design.
Essential Criteria
- GMC registration with a valid licence to practise.
- Substantive consultant experience (minimum 5 years at consultant level preferred).
- Proven senior leadership experience in clinical governance, patient safety, or medical directorship.
- Demonstrable knowledge of NHS elective care pathways, insourcing or outsourced service models.
- Excellent knowledge of regulatory standards, including CQC, GMC, and NHS England frameworks.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to in?uence at board level and engage effectively with clinical and non-clinical stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria
- Prior experience in independent sector healthcare, insourcing, or NHS subcontracted services.
- Experience as a Responsible Officer or in managing appraisal and revalidation systems.
- Familiarity with the Insourcing NHS Framework, or similar national commissioning frameworks.
- Involvement in the mobilisation of new clinical services across multiple sites or regions.

- Paid per ProgrammedActivity (PA) – competitive rates offered based on experience and scope.
