We’re a friendly, inclusive, and ambitious team—driven by our values and a shared commitment to success. If you’re ready to join a fast-growing, high-impact company that’s reimagining resource management, then let’s talk.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Software Quality Engineer (Senior level or strong mid-level) to join our Product Engineering team as a flexible QE resource, able to work across multiple teams and problem spaces as our priorities evolve.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in changing environments, can quickly build context in new domains, and brings strong judgement when working with ambiguity and incomplete information.

You’ll work closely with engineers and product managers to shape how quality is approached, with a focus on identifying risks early, validating real user behaviour, and ensuring teams make informed decisions about what to ship.

A key part of the role is release confidence—making sure each release is well understood, risks are visible, and the team is aligned on whether it is ready to go out to customers.

Depending on the team and context, you may operate as the primary QE or work alongside another QE, sharing ownership of quality and collaborating on approach.

Rather than being tied to a single team long-term, you’ll move where you add the most value—initially supporting an existing product team and contributing to new initiatives as they ramp up.

You’ll also have opportunities to build or evolve quality processes from scratch, particularly in teams or areas where practices are still maturing.

We’re increasingly working with AI-powered systems and tools, and we expect you to actively use these to improve your efficiency, remove bottlenecks, and increase the signal from your testing activities.

What You Will Do

  • Work as a primary or joint QE within a team, owning or contributing to quality decisions and outcomes
  • Define a clear testing approach for features and releases
  • Drive release readiness, ensuring risks are understood and communicated before shipping
  • Identify and communicate risks, gaps, and trade-offs
  • Perform exploratory and user-focused testing to validate real behaviour
  • Build or improve quality processes and practices, especially in new or evolving teams
  • Partner with engineers and product to improve how quality is built into the product
  • Use tools (including AI where appropriate) to increase efficiency and signal from testing activities
  • Adapt quickly to new teams, domains, and problem spaces

About You

  • Strong in exploratory testing and risk‑based thinking
  • Comfortable owning release quality and making judgement calls under pressure
  • Able to identify gaps in process and introduce simple, effective improvements
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous or fast‑changing environments
  • Able to quickly build product understanding and make quality decisions
  • Confident in influencing teams and shaping approach, whether working independently or alongside another QE
  • Curious about AI and emerging technologies, and open to using them to improve how you work
  • Pragmatic — able to balance quality, speed, and delivery pressure

Bonus Points For

  • Experience acting as a primary QE or sole QE on a team, owning quality outcomes end‑to‑end
  • Experience working across multiple teams or domains, adapting quickly to new problem spaces
  • Experience introducing or improving quality processes from scratch in a team
  • Experience influencing engineers and product to improve testability and quality earlier in development
  • Experience testing complex or ambiguous systems where behaviour is not always deterministic
  • Practical experience using AI tools to improve quality outcomes

What you’ll get

  • Starting salary up to £55,000, depending on experience and grade.
  • At least £1,000 per year to spend on professional and personal development
  • 33 days' holiday per year (including bank holidays), increasing by 1 day each year to a maximum of 40 days
  • Paid four‑week sabbatical in your fifth anniversary year on top of your holiday entitlement
  • Enhanced family leave policies
  • Private healthcare and rewards through AXA
  • Income protection and death in service cover
  • Matched 5% auto‑enrolment workplace pension scheme
  • Access to wellbeing offerings, such as our Employee Assistance Programme and a dedicated counselling service
  • Volunteering time – up to 20 hours a year to participate in volunteer work
  • Regular All Hands meeting for inspiration and over‑communication
  • Time out of the working week for team socials each month, with a mix of in‑person and virtual options: past events include hiking, family BBQs, boardgamesand at-home cocktail classes!
  • Genuinely nice, smart people to work with, who are excited about growing our company

Working Details

This is a full‑time role (37.5 hours per week). We typically work from 09:00–17:30 from Monday to Friday, though we can be flexible around this, just let us know.

We’re ideally looking for someone in/around Edinburgh, though we’re open to the possibility of this being a remote role (as long as you’re in the UK). We’re making the most of hybrid working, so you won’t need to come into the office every day (unless you want to!).

We don’t mandate required office days, but we find that most of the team enjoy working from the office 2–3 days a week to connect with their team and other Dayshapers and to make use of space, and for meetings and collaboration.

Join the team!

Equality of opportunity is more than just a responsibility: we believe it is a huge advantage to welcome a variety of experiences and perspectives into the team. Diversity is a great asset and, as such, we strongly encourage applications from any background.

This is your opportunity to really influence how we get things done, and how we measure and improve our capability to deliver software with high quality in a scalable way. We are doing well, but there are lots more to do to maintain the high bar and pace that we have set.

Everyone here is growing personally as the company grows, so if that sounds like something you would like to be part of, we would love to see your application.
