We’re a friendly, inclusive, and ambitious team—driven by our values and a shared commitment to success. If you’re ready to join a fast-growing, high-impact company that’s reimagining resource management, then let’s talk.

About the role

We’ve come a long way in a short time, but there’s still so much more we can do. We have grand ambitions to make Dayshape the most usable, scalable, flexible and rapid to deploy solution on the market, and we’re not there yet. Our tech leads are great with people, helping to elevate their team and the work they do, as well as being able to get stuck in technically. This role is a mix of technical and people leadership, leading a product engineering team that will operate in a particular area of the product. We are hiring for across several teams, so the team’s area of focus will differ. We also tend to review focus areas at least once a year, so this will change throughout your career at Dayshape. As examples, the focus areas could span a new module for the product, several more focused features, or continuing a significant migration in our UI.

What you’ll do

As a Tech Lead, you will lead, and work collaboratively with, your cross-functional team to plan and deliver new features and enhancements. You will take ownership of features and technical initiatives and make sure they are successful. The time split between technical planning and delivery, and line-management will depend on the size of your team. Initially, as we build up the teams, you will be more hands on, adjusting the split as the size of the team increases. Some of the teams will naturally be smaller than others due to the nature of the work, so please highlight to us in your application or during the interview process if you have a preference for remaining more hands-on, or if you are happy to adjust your style to the size of the team.

In this role you will:

  • Manage a software engineering team, line managing 2-6 software engineers, including 1:1s and supporting personal development planning.
  • Provide expertise and input into our architecture, design, and technology decisions.
  • Work as part of the Engineering leadership team to identify, set, and drive objectives and key results.
  • Work with your team’s product manager (and the rest of the team) on prioritisation, scoping of product features.
  • Analyse, code, test, and release new product features, enhancements, and improvements.
  • Assist with technical, functional and design activities with our professional services team, product managers, and customers.
  • Help us manage the entire lifecycle of features and product releases.
  • Interview and hire additional software engineers.
  • Champion our culture of learning, development, cross-company collaboration and teamwork.

About you

Direct line management experience is not essential, but you must be able to demonstrate experience as a leader. Emotional intelligence, cross team collaboration as well as the ability to help align team priorities are key parts of this role. Strong full-stack developer, ideally closely matching our tech stack. Since we’re hiring across several teams, suitable candidates will be either experienced generalists or somewhat focused on the front end part of our tech stack. Our standard tech stack is .NET (framework & Core), Azure SQL Server and the Azure platform, with a browser-based SPA UI in Vue.js and vanilla JS/CSS/HTML.

Great at breaking down big tasks into small chunks, solving tricky problems and tackling risks. Knowledgeable about a range of technologies, and quick to learn. Motivated by learning new things and using those to make a positive difference. Comfortable challenging and raising issues at any level. Great at asking awkward questions, kindly. An excellent, kind, and supportive communicator (who often finds yourself un-crossing wires between your colleagues). Able to consider the broader impact of your design and coding decisions and those of others. Used to working with agile development teams on large software products.

Bonus points if you are/have:

  • Knowledgeable about wider Azure platform services.
  • Worked with complex web interfaces with large DOM views.
  • Worked in (or with) the Professional Services industry.
  • Experience with the rest of our stack: RabbitMQ, SignalR.

What you’ll get

  • Starting salary between £67,000 and £80,000, dependent on experience.
  • Earning potential in the Development Team Lead salary band up to £85,000.
  • At least £1,000 per year to spend on professional and personal development.
  • 33 days' holiday per year (including bank holidays), increasing by 1 day each year to a maximum of 40 days.
  • Paid four-weeks sabbatical in your fifth anniversary year on top of your holiday entitlement.
  • Enhanced family leave policies.
  • Private healthcare and rewards through Vitality.
  • Income protection and death in service cover.
  • Matched 5% auto-enrolment workplace pension scheme.
  • Access to wellbeing offerings, such as our Employee Assistance Programme and a dedicated counselling service.
  • Innovation Week twice a year - a chance to experiment and work off-project.
  • Volunteering time – up to 20 hours a year to participate in volunteer work.
  • Regular All Hands meeting for inspiration and over-communication.
  • Time out of the working week for team socials each month, with a mix of in-person and virtual options: past events include hiking, family BBQs, board games and at-home cocktail classes!
  • Genuinely nice, smart people to work with, who are excited about growing our company.

Working Details

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week). We typically work from 09:00 - 17:30 from Monday to Friday, though we can be flexible around this, just let us know. We’re ideally looking for someone in/around Edinburgh, able to work on a hybrid basis between home and our Haymarket office. We don't mandate required office days, but we find that most of the team enjoy working from the office 2-3 days a week to connect with their team and other Dayshapers and to make use of space, and for meetings and collaboration.

Join the team!

Equality of opportunity is more than just a responsibility: we believe it’s a huge advantage to welcome a variety of experiences and perspectives into the team. Diversity is a great asset and, as such, we strongly encourage applications from any background. This is your opportunity to really influence how we get things done, and how we scale our application architecture to reflect the large client base we have developed. We’re doing well, but there’s lots more to do to maintain the high bar and pace that we’ve set. Everyone here is growing personally as the company grows, so if that sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to see your application.

Please note the successful candidate for this role will be subject to background checks and will have an opportunity to declare anything to us beforehand.
