About the role
Are you looking for an opportunity to use and develop your design experience working on a complex and meaningful product used by tens of thousands of professionals? We're on the hunt for a Product Designer to help improve and extend our product functionality and user experience. You'll work in a fast-paced growing environment helping to deliver customer improvements at pace, and we need someone who can balance short-term pragmatism with long-term ambition. Working alongside two other Product Designers, this is a great opportunity for someone who wants to input into our overall product design vision, improve our design processes, and provide end-to-end design support to our engineering teams.
What you'll do:
Working closely with our Product & Engineering teams you will be completing UX and UI design activities across the software development lifecycle.
Take briefs from Product Managers and deliver logical, scalable and consistent design work that meets requirements and works within technical constraints.
Help Product Managers and Engineers understand different solutions to problems, educating where necessary on the strengths and benefits to different approaches.
Use your expertise to regularly provide ad hoc design guidance and advice to Engineers.
Contribute to our growing UI kit and ensure greater consistency by using it over time.
Suggest changes to our design process in an environment where your opinion will be heard.
Aid Product Managers in feature discovery and design validation.
Take an active role in Quality Assurance activities– reviewing implemented work against designs and providing clear feedback to Engineers.
Be comfortable working with Figma and AI-powered tools to support and accelerate parts of the design process applying strong design judgement to ensure designs remain user-centred and aligned with our product standards.
About you
A good blend of visual, UI and UX skills – highly competent using Figma for high-fidelity designs, but equally comfortable sketching out user journeys on a whiteboard.
Experience working on complex enterprise software flows – think dependencies, validation, accessibility and considering edge-cases.
A team player – prepared to make compromises in the short-term for the better of the team, suggesting and tactically using different deliverables based on timescales and priorities.
A drive to learn and improve, including being curious and pragmatic about emerging tools and techniques, with a focus on adding real value both individually but also for Dayshape and the design function.
Self-assured – happy explaining why design decisions have been made and providing ad hoc feedback and advice to a large Engineering team.
Experienced engaging directly with internal stakeholders, end-users and customers – confident running customer interviews, design reviews and workshops, gathering feedback, and translating insights into practical design decisions, adapting your communication style to different audiences.
Strong collaborator across disciplines, with the ability to build trusted relationships with Product, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders, and manage competing viewpoints constructively.
Confident working with data – able to use qualitative and quantitative inputs to inform design decisions, and keen to help grow data-informed design practices within the team.
Keeps closely up to date with current UI trends and patterns, using this knowledge to strengthen the visual quality and usability of the product in a thoughtful, user-centred way.
Comfortable pushing visual quality while working within a design system, knowing when to challenge patterns and when consistency is the right trade-off.
Proactive mindset and adaptability – Dayshape is a place where everyone can drive change if they take the initiative.
Experience working on an established product – making incremental improvements to a live product with a large user base – not just experience in new products or greenfield features.
Great at asking awkward questions, kindly.
Comfortable using AI tooling as part of your day-to-day work, with a clear understanding of its strengths, limitations, and appropriate use cases.
Bonus points if you have:
Experience in discovery and/or validation of design concepts with users e.g. usability testing.
Basic technical awareness (e.g. HTML/CSS/front-end frameworks and data) to be able to understand technical concepts in conversation with Engineers.
Prior experience, or awareness, in designing for accessibility.
Awareness of basic resource management principles (time, management, scheduling, budgets) or ERP/ HCM software (e.g. Workday, Salesforce).
Familiarity with UX laws, heuristics, and principles and the ability to apply them to make more informed design decisions.
Experience using data to evaluate and iterate on designs, such as interpreting usage patterns, experiment results, or customer feedback trends.
What you'll get:
Salary £34-48K, dependent on experience.
At least £1,000 per year to spend on professional and personal development.
33 days' holiday per year (including bank holidays), increasing by 1 day each year to a maximum of 40 days.
Paid four weeks sabbatical in your fifth anniversary year on top of your holiday entitlement.
Enhanced family leave policies.
Private health insurance, including dental and vision benefits.
Income protection and death in service cover.
Matched 5% auto-enrolment workplace pension scheme.
Access to wellbeing offerings, such as our Employee Assistance Programme and a dedicated counselling service.
Volunteering time – up to 20 hours a year to participate in volunteer work.
Regular All Hands meeting for inspiration and over-communication.
Time out of the working week for team socials each month, with a mix of in-person and virtual options: past events include hiking, family BBQs, board games and at-home cocktail classes!
Genuinely nice, smart people to work with, who are excited about growing our company.
