The Opportunity Mirion Technologies is a global company that provides mission‑critical systems for radiation detection and protection. We foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our Farnborough team. The position reports to the Projects and Design Team Manager. As a Junior Mechanical Engineer you will support the research, development, and implementation of high‑temperature and nuclear imaging products. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team, supporting projects from conception to completion and gaining hands‑on experience in a real‑world engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and analysing mechanical components and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
  • Conduct simulations, testing, and analysis to ensure product functionality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, electrical, and quality assurance, to support product development.
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for project updates.
  • Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical designs.
  • Perform engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions.
  • Perform material selection and cost analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
  • Assist in process improvement and problem‑solving initiatives.
  • Participate in design reviews with internal and external customers.
  • Create sketches, outline drawings, detail drawings, and assembly drawings.
  • Design for manufacture, ensuring products are safe, reliable, and meet required industry standards.
  • Create accurate part and assembly models.
  • Prepare Technical Construction Files for product compliance verification.
  • Execute design verification and functional testing.
  • Generate reports, calculations, test procedures, manuals, and master data within the ERP system (Item data, BOMs, Routes).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified to a minimum degree level in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in mechanical design and development using 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to review and work with stakeholders to prioritise workload independently.
  • Excellent communication, time‑management, and organisational skills.
  • Experience preparing cost sheets for sales enquiries.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of RoHS.
  • Knowledge of drawing standards, including BS8888.
