The position reports to the Projects and Design Team Manager. As a Junior Mechanical Engineer you will support the research, development, and implementation of high‑temperature and nuclear imaging products. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team, supporting projects from conception to completion and gaining hands‑on experience in a real‑world engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and analysing mechanical components and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
- Conduct simulations, testing, and analysis to ensure product functionality and efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including manufacturing, electrical, and quality assurance, to support product development.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for project updates.
- Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical designs.
- Perform engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions.
- Perform material selection and cost analysis.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
- Assist in process improvement and problem‑solving initiatives.
- Participate in design reviews with internal and external customers.
- Create sketches, outline drawings, detail drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Design for manufacture, ensuring products are safe, reliable, and meet required industry standards.
- Create accurate part and assembly models.
- Prepare Technical Construction Files for product compliance verification.
- Execute design verification and functional testing.
- Generate reports, calculations, test procedures, manuals, and master data within the ERP system (Item data, BOMs, Routes).
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified to a minimum degree level in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Experience in mechanical design and development using 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks and AutoCAD).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to review and work with stakeholders to prioritise workload independently.
- Excellent communication, time‑management, and organisational skills.
- Experience preparing cost sheets for sales enquiries.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of RoHS.
- Knowledge of drawing standards, including BS8888.
