What does a typical day look like? These are your main tasks:
- Asset & Materials Standardisation: Develop and implement the Bakelite Europe Asset & Materials Standardisation Strategy to reduce maintenance costs, rationalise assets and materials, and deliver savings for CAPEX projects. This includes analysing inventory usage, managing tender processes and evaluating bids, maintaining the standardisation register for assets and materials, and driving the rationalisation of common assets and materials across European sites.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Act as SME for purchasing and management of assets and spares, providing guidance to ensure cost savings and standardisation at each location.
- Collaboration & Performance: Work closely with site leaders, maintenance and engineering managers, and other operational teams to set and achieve goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
What exciting challenges will you take on in this role? These are your Job Responsibilities:
- Program Ownership – Control & Safeguarding Systems: Develop the lifecycle strategy for control and safeguarding systems across multiple vendors. Mitigate obsolescence risks and long lead times through strategic parts contracts. Improve energy efficiency and reduce production costs. Minimize downtime risk from DCS infrastructure failures.
- Major EC&I Project Design – Process Control: Own the development of Process Narratives, FDS/HDS, I/O Lists, Logic & C&E Diagrams, FAT/SAT, and Commissioning Plans. Ensure successful delivery of EI and DCS capital programs.
- Process Control Programming & Troubleshooting: Lead commissioning of automation systems and reduce external programming costs. Support in-house programming and training initiatives.
- Batch Recipe & Production Sequence Optimization: Drive the optimization of batch recipes and production sequences to support OEE initiatives. Drive cost savings and improve production efficiency through in-house programming.
- Data Analytics Program: Working with the EU Engineering team implement and manage analytics tools across European sites. Apply process control and instrumentation expertise to enhance data insights. Reduce material rework and quality issues. Enable online water content testing for foam resins. Support the OEE Pillar on DCS initiatives.
- AI-Based Software Trials & Digital Transformation: Support trials of AI technologies for new product development and process optimization. Collaborate with internal and external AI/data specialists. Enable real-time data migration and AI-driven decision-making. Strengthen predictive capabilities and digital maturity across operations.
What is required to be successful in this role? (Education & Experience):
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Process Control, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years in process control and automation within manufacturing environments.
- Proven leadership in capital project execution and analytics program management.
- Experience with multiple BPCS platforms and AI/data integration.
- Demonstrated success in reducing costs and improving operational performance.
- Travel for periods within Europe (typical duration 1 week, up to 2 weeks) when business requires. 20-30% Travel.
