PCB Assembly Operative

We are looking for Experienced PCB Assembly Operatives to join the Production team on Kingswinford, Dudley.

Job Description

To carry out through-hole assembly and soldering of printed circuit boards (PCBs) to high-quality standards, ensuring all work meets the workmanship, reliability, and delivery expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Insert through-hole components according to assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.
• Perform hand soldering of components onto PCBs in accordance with IPC-A-610 and company standards.
• Trim leads and clean PCBs after soldering to ensure quality workmanship.
• Carry out wire preparation, cable assembly, and connector fitting as required.
• Visually inspect solder joints and component placement using magnification tools.
• Identify and correct defects such as insufficient solder, bridging, or misalignment.
• Perform basic functional checks and continuity testing when required.
• Accurately record build data, serial numbers, and inspection results.
• Complete route cards, assembly checklists, and quality forms in line with company procedures.
• Maintain soldering irons, fume extraction, and other tools in good working condition.
• Ensure proper handling of components in compliance with ESD control procedures.
• Support calibration and maintenance schedules for through-hole equipment.
• Follow all safety, ESD, and 5S housekeeping procedures.
• Report any process or quality issues to the Production Supervisor.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and product quality.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

• Proven experience in through-hole PCB assembly or electronic manufacturing.
• Skilled in hand soldering and rework to IPC-A-610 Class 2 or higher standards.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, assembly diagrams, and BOMs.
• Knowledge of ESD-safe working practices.

• Desirable ( although not essential
• IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification.
• Experience with cable or loom assembly.
• Understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Familiarity with AOI or visual inspection standards.

Working Conditions

Compliance with safety and process requirements.
