Location: Bath
Term: Temp – 37.5 hours per week

Shift pattern: Monday – Friday
Rate: £14.00 – £15.00 per hour (depending on experience and payment method)
Job Summary
We are looking for a well-organised and motivated Medical Secretary to join our client’s team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain or build on experience within the NHS.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Provide a complete medical secretarial service including audio typing, filing, scanning, photocopying, and composition of letters; fast and accurate copy and audio typing service producing clinic letters and other documents.
- Prepare and organise papers for meetings, attend, and take notes as necessary.
- Liaise with nurses, doctors and other members of the multi-disciplinary team including inpatient and outpatient booking teams to provide a quality service for patients.
- Work as part of a team with shared responsibilities to ensure smooth running of the department.
- Provide first point of contact, answering telephone enquiries, taking, and relaying messages politely and helpfully; use own judgement to establish priority and act appropriately. Arrange patient appointments when necessary.
- Monitor and check RTT (Referral to Treatment) outcomes/pathway and adjust if necessary. Check patients have been correctly listed for treatments.
- Assist with the smooth running of consultant diaries and help organise meetings as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain computerised filing systems.
- Make best use of information technology.
- Check patients are correctly listed on patient databases and assist booking clerks as required.
- Assist in the fast-track treatment for patients with cancer.
- Maintain an efficient system for tracing health records and retrieve reports from electronic databases (in-house training provided).
- Provide secretarial cover across the directorate as necessary.
- Ensure that all relevant parties are informed of any leave to be taken by consultants and their teams.
- Be flexible to the needs of the Directorate and of the Trust as a whole.
- Maintain a tidy and pleasant office environment.
