This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mental health professional to play a key role in the delivery of University of the Arts London’s (UAL) mental health and wellbeing provision. Working closely with staff from across the university, you will carry out mental health assessments, implement brief interventions, and offer advice and support to students, so they can successfully engage with their studies and university life. You will provide creative and engaging psycho-education and wellbeing advice in group and 1:1 settings to help support and assist students with the management of their mental health difficulties. The wellbeing and mental health of our students is UAL’s priority and you will help to promote wellbeing and mental health awareness across the University. This will also involve delivering training and awareness workshops for University staff on student mental health, as well as contributing to service developments, ensuring our provision is at the forefront of developments within the sector. You will be required to work 4 days a week at up to two different colleges sites and have flexibility to work 1 day a week from home.
Responsibilities
- Carry out mental health assessments and provide brief interventions.
- Offer advice and support to students to help them engage with their studies and university life.
- Provide creative and engaging psycho-education and wellbeing advice in group and 1:1 settings.
- Deliver training and awareness workshops for University staff on student mental health.
- Contribute to service developments to keep provision at the forefront of sector developments.
- Work across up to two college sites (four days per week) with flexibility for one day per week from home.
Qualifications and Experience
- Well-qualified mental health professional with a relevant degree/postgraduate qualification (e.g., Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, OT, SW).
- Registered with a relevant professional body and previous mental health experience, including comprehensive assessments, support planning, risk management, and proactive crisis support.
- Working knowledge of brief psychological approaches and interventions (e.g., CBT, motivational interviewing, DBT).
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and national guidance (e.g., Mental Health Act, Care Act, Safeguarding, University Mental Health Charter).
