Opportunity University of the Arts London is seeking an experienced and qualified Counsellor to join its counselling and mental health team. The role involves providing assessments, counselling, and crisis management support to students – individually or in groups – on an appointment basis. The successful candidate will also support academics and other UAL staff with phone and email advice and training events.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct assessments and provide individual and group counselling to students.
- Offer crisis management support and manage emergencies, including identifying and referring students requiring psychiatric support or assessment.
- Collaborate with managers and the team to develop the service, promote good practice, and contribute to the strategic development of student support.
- Work closely with academics and UAL staff to support students via telephone and email.
- Participate in on‑site and remote work patterns (maximum of 3 days on‑site with Tuesday mandatory and one day working from home).
Your profile
Required qualifications and experience:
- BACP or equivalent accreditation and a postgraduate diploma or master’s level counselling qualification.
- Understanding of counselling within a university setting and awareness of issues affecting students.
- Experience in providing crisis support, managing emergencies, and referring students to psychiatric care.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students.
