About the Role
Join Day Group as a Depot Operative (Loading Shovel Operator) at our Wellingborough depot and play an important role in supporting the efficient movement and processing of materials across the site.
Working as part of our operations team, you’ll be responsible for operating a loading shovel safely and efficiently to load vehicles, move materials, maintain stockpiles, and support the day-to-day running of the depot. You’ll also assist with general operational duties, helping to maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment.
This is a hands-on role operating in a busy industrial environment where safety, teamwork, and operational efficiency are key.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced operational environment. You will have experience operating loading shovels or other mobile plant and be confident carrying out routine checks, moving materials safely, and supporting depot operations.
You should be proactive, flexible, and willing to assist with other depot activities when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a loading shovel safely and efficiently
- Load customer and internal vehicles accurately and safely
- Move, manage, and maintain material stockpiles across the depot
- Carry out daily plant checks and report any defects
- Assist with processing and operational activities across the site
- Support other depot operatives with day-to-day tasks
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the depot
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company health, safety, and environmental procedures
- Report hazards, defects, and operational issues promptly
- Contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the depot
Skills and Experience
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good awareness of health and safety requirements
- Experience operating a loading shovel or similar mobile plant
- Positive attitude and willingness to support operational activities
- Loading Shovel Operator competency certificate
- Experience within the aggregates, recycling, waste management, or construction sectors
- Experience working in a depot or industrial environment
- Knowledge of material handling and stockpile management
- Basic mechanical awareness and ability to identify equipment defects
