Jewellery Cataloguer, Maidenhead, Berkshire in Reading

Dawsons is looking for a motivated and detail-focused Jewellery Cataloguer to join our specialist Jewellery, Watches & Silver department at our Auction Logistics Hub in Berkshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong jewellery knowledge, a sharp eye for detail and a genuine interest in the auction world. You will play an important part in researching, describing, preparing and presenting jewellery, watches and silver for our monthly Fine and Timed Auctions.

Working directly with the Joint Heads of Jewellery, Watches & Silver, you will be part of a friendly, knowledgeable and ambitious team within a technology-led auction business that is continuing to grow.

As Jewellery Cataloguer, you will be responsible for accurately cataloguing a wide variety of jewellery, watches and silver for auction.

You will research items, test materials, identify gemstones and precious metals, prepare condition reports, enter stock details into our auction systems and help ensure each sale is presented to the highest possible standard.

This is a varied, hands-on role that combines specialist knowledge, research, accuracy, organisation and teamwork. It would suit someone who enjoys working with beautiful objects, thrives on detail, and wants to develop within a growing auction house.

You will:

• Accurately and efficiently catalogue jewellery, watches and silver to strict auction deadlines.
• Test and identify gemstones and precious metals to ensure descriptions are accurate.
• Research provenance, history, makers and comparable items.
• Prepare detailed condition reports when requested.
• Enter stock and catalogue details into Dawsons’ auction operating systems.
• Handle high-value and fragile items carefully and professionally.
• Organise, lot and lay out stock ahead of monthly Fine and Timed Auctions.
• Support live auctions, including clerking and taking telephone bids on sale days.
• Assist with the day-to-day running of the Jewellery, Watches & Silver department.
• Help with client enquiries and occasional valuation requests when needed.
• Work closely with our friendly team of expert jewellery valuers and cataloguers.
• Occasionally travel to our Hampstead office when required.

We are looking for someone who combines specialist knowledge with accuracy, organisation and a positive attitude.

You should have:

• A keen interest in jewellery, watches and silver.
• FGA, DGA, GIA or equivalent professional qualifications, or 5+ years’ experience within the jewellery industry.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to write clear, accurate descriptions.
• The ability to work to tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
• Excellent time-management and organisational skills.
• A flexible, team-focused approach.
• A can-do attitude and a willingness to keep learning.
• Good IT competence and confidence using digital systems.
• Auction experience, which would be beneficial but is not essential.
