About this Role
Are you an experienced Fleet Manager, Senior Transport Manager or Head of Fleet looking for your next challenge? We're looking for a Senior Fleet Manager to join Dawsongroup in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, taking the lead on the performance, safety and commercial management of approximately 1,800 specialist HGVs across our municipal and environmental fleet.
- Take ownership of fleet availability, reliability, maintenance and operational readiness across multiple locations.
- Lead vehicle replacement programmes, procurement, specifications and disposals, balancing operational needs with whole-life costs.
- Champion roadworthiness, DVSA, FORS and operator licence compliance, ensuring safety remains at the heart of every decision.
- Manage fleet expenditure, supplier relationships and performance, identifying opportunities to improve value and reduce unnecessary costs.
- Lead and develop our Fleet Team, Operator Trainers and Delivery Drivers, using fleet data, telematics and KPIs to drive continuous improvement.
About You
You'll bring proven senior fleet leadership experience, sound commercial judgement and a strong understanding of HGV compliance and operator licensing. You're equally comfortable working with operational teams, challenging suppliers and influencing senior stakeholders, with a practical approach to getting things done.
- Experience leading substantial commercial vehicle fleets, ideally involving specialist HGVs or municipal vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of roadworthiness, maintenance planning, defect management and transport legislation.
- Confidence managing budgets, whole-life vehicle costs, supplier performance and commercial decisions.
- Ability to turn fleet data into meaningful improvements in reliability, utilisation and vehicle availability.
- A collaborative leadership style, with the confidence to challenge, support and develop people across the business.
Experience with road sweepers, tankers, refuse collection vehicles or other specialist equipment would be valuable, but we also recognise the benefits of transferable experience. If you meet our core requirements but not every desirable criterion, we'd still encourage you to apply.

- Funded training, professional development and internal progression opportunities.
- 2x life assurance and long-term incentives.
- Wellbeing and mental health support, alongside a Cycle to Work scheme.
