Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director of Bilingual Education and in coordination with the classroom teacher, the ESL Tutor instructs students from bilingual homes, helping them with basic academic skills and class assignments.

Description

This classified position is open to all applicants. Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The position offers 5.9 hours per day, 166 days per year, at a Grade 3 salary of $16.92 per hour (2025-26 Support Salary Table). This is a one-year position. Promotions may result in a minimum 5% salary increase.

General Function

Under the supervision of the Director of Bilingual Education and in coordination with the classroom teacher, the ESL Tutor helps students from bilingual homes develop basic academic skills and complete class assignments.

Educational Requirements

  1. High school graduation.
  2. Minimum qualifications include the equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) of full-time higher education, an associate\’s degree, or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test.

Knowledge & Ability

  1. Proficiency in a second language and knowledge of a second culture.
  2. Ability to work well with students, teachers, and administrators.
  3. Patience and empathy when working with children.
  4. Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, English pronunciation, reading comprehension, etc.
