Summary: Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation periods. Prepares lesson plans and required classroom materials and provides instruction in specialized subject matter areas (e.g., music, art, science, computer operations, media centre usage, physical education, languages, health).

Description: Classified position is announced to all qualified applicants. Applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, July 10, 2025. 2.98 hours per day/174 days per year/Salary Grade 6 $19.60 per hour (2025-26 Support Salary Table) [Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase] NOTE: HOURS ARE APPROXIMATE.

General Function: Under the general supervision of the Principal or other supervisor, the Preparation Time Specialist teaches classes and/or supervises students during teacher preparation periods. Prepares lesson plans and required classroom materials and provides instruction in specialized subject matter areas (e.g., music, art, science, computer operations, media centre usage, physical education, languages).

Educational Requirements:

  • High school graduation or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Formal education or training in area of specializing preferred.
  • The equivalent of two years (48 semester hours) full-time education at an institution of higher education; or an associate's degree; or the ability to pass a Utah State Office of Education approved Para-Professional Test will be required at a later date.

Knowledge & Ability:

  • Knowledge of subject matter areas associated with assigned courses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for interaction with students, teachers and other school personnel.
  • Ability to effectively teach assigned course subjects.

Job-Related Experience:

  • None required.
  • Experience in working with children preferred.
