We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Environmental Safety Specialist to join our team and ensure a safe and environmentally responsible workplace for our employees and the surrounding community. As an Environmental Safety Specialist, you will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive environmental health and safety (EHS) programs that comply with all relevant regulations and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Environmental Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess potential environmental hazards and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Safety Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees to raise awareness and promote a safety-oriented culture. Provide guidance on proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Incident Prevention and Investigation: Identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement preventative measures to minimize accidents and incidents. Investigate safety incidents to determine root causes and develop corrective action plans.
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans to handle environmental incidents, spills, and accidents effectively. Conduct drills and exercises to ensure preparedness.
- Waste Management: Oversee waste management procedures, including waste segregation, storage, and disposal, in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Air and Water Quality Monitoring: Implement programs to monitor air and water quality within the facility and surrounding areas. Collaborate with external agencies to conduct environmental sampling and analysis.
- Ergonomics and Workplace Safety: Assess workplace ergonomics and develop guidelines to minimize physical strain and potential injuries. Recommend safety equipment and measures to improve workplace safety.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and environmental monitoring data. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about the latest developments in environmental regulations and safety practices. Identify opportunities for improvement and drive initiatives to enhance the overall EHS program.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- Proven experience in environmental safety and compliance, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Effective communication skills to interact with employees, management, and regulatory authorities.
- Ability to lead training sessions and conduct safety-related presentations.
- Familiarity with EHS software and tools for data management and reporting is a plus.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are advantageous.
