Are you an experienced legal professional looking to build your career within complex injury work? This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing, collaborative team where you’ll work on high‑value, multi‑track and catastrophic injury claims, while continuing to develop your technical expertise and confidence. You’ll work closely with a Lead Lawyer on a varied caseload involving employers’ liability, public liability and motor claims for public sector and corporate clients. The role will give you exposure to complex issues including liability, coverage, indemnity, quantum, causation and fundamental dishonesty.

As a Complex Injury Assistant Lawyer, you’ll be part of the Complex Injury Claims Team, helping to progress files from the initial receipt of papers through to resolution. You’ll support on cases involving serious and catastrophic injuries, including brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and fatal claims. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll be trusted to analyse evidence, prepare advice, communicate with insurer clients and help move claims forward. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend conferences, mediations, settlement meetings and court hearings, both remotely and in person.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting a Lead Lawyer with a caseload of complex, high‑value injury claims.
  • Reviewing and analysing medical, liability and quantum evidence to identify key issues, gaps and next steps.
  • Preparing chronologies, reviewing records and helping to instruct medical experts where required.
  • Drafting clear, concise advice on indemnity, liability, quantum, causation and strategy.
  • Liaising with insurer clients, insured parties, witnesses and other parties involved in claims.
  • Interviewing witnesses and drafting witness statements.
  • Drafting pleadings, applications and other legal documents.
  • Attending conferences, JSMs, mediations, court hearings, trials and settlement conferences where needed.
  • Supporting the development of Legal Assistants and/or Paralegals by delegating appropriate tasks and providing guidance.
  • Keeping case management systems up to date with accurate information for clients.

About You

We’re looking for someone with relevant experience in injury litigation who is keen to continue developing within complex injury work. Significant fast‑track experience and above will be considered, and applications are welcomed from both claimant and defendant backgrounds. You may be a qualified Solicitor, CILEX Lawyer or have proven relevant legal experience. What matters most is that you have a strong understanding of indemnity, liability and quantum, excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyse complex evidence carefully and confidently. You’ll also bring a positive, personable and collaborative approach. This role would suit someone who enjoys working as part of a team, is keen to learn, and wants to be involved with both clients and colleagues.

  • Experience of indemnity, liability and quantum.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with complex medical issues, or an interest in developing this area.
  • Experience calculating claim values using Ogden tables, or a willingness to build on this experience.
  • Good advocacy, telephone advocacy and communication skills.
  • The ability to plan, prioritise and work to deadlines, including when under pressure.
  • Confidence to take initiative, seek guidance when needed and adapt to changing situations.
  • A calm, professional and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Good IT skills, including Word, Excel and Office.
