To provide senior technical oversight and governance of claims activity across Asta-managed syndicates, ensuring compliance with Lloyd’s, regulatory and internal standards. The role holds ownership of key claims oversight processes, including ACFR submissions, audit programmes and high-value authority referrals, and acts as a senior point of technical challenge and escalation for syndicates and internal stakeholders. The position supports the Head of Claims Management in delivering effective claims assurance, reporting and remediation, and contributes to governance decision-making through the provision of high-quality claims insight and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall ownership of the Annual Claims File Review (ACFR) process, coordinating audit activity across internal resources and external audit firms, performing targeted audit reviews as required, and ensuring effective oversight of syndicate submissions, issue resolution, adherence to standards, and the timely completion of remedial actions.
- Hold end-to-end ownership of sanctions-related claims matters across Asta-managed syndicates, acting as the accountable lead for sanctions governance. This includes oversight of all syndicate referrals to the Asta Sanctions team, ensuring matters are identified, escalated and managed in accordance with applicable sanctions regimes, Lloyd’s requirements and internal policies, and proactively identifying, monitoring and addressing trends, risks and control weaknesses.
- Review and assess syndicate claims reports submitted to underwriting committees and governance forums, providing independent analysis of large loss activity, claims trends and emerging risk issues. Deliver appropriate technical challenge, ensure material issues are clearly articulated, and escalate significant concerns to the Asta Head of Claims Management in line with governance and oversight expectations.
- Plan and lead on-site engagement with syndicate claims teams to gain a clear understanding of claims performance, capability and control effectiveness. This includes reviewing claims systems, processes and governance arrangements, undertaking targeted audit activity where appropriate, and providing oversight of findings, agreed actions and follow-up to drive continuous improvement.
- Provide senior oversight of claims audits conducted on business delegated to Lloyd’s-approved DCAs and Coverholders, coordinating audit activity undertaken by internal teams and external audit firms, and ensuring that audit outcomes are appropriately reviewed, remedial actions are agreed, tracked and evidenced to completion.
- Act as the primary senior referral point for claims exceeding syndicate authority, providing robust technical challenge, exercising delegated decision-making where appropriate, and ensuring matters are governed and escalated in line with agreed authority and oversight frameworks.
