The Underwriting Performance Analyst holds responsibility for monitoring and assessing underwriting outcomes across Asta’s client portfolio. Reporting directly to the Underwriting Performance Manager as an integral member of the underwriting performance team, this role contributes to business planning, provides analytical insights, and supports regulatory reporting to ensure compliance with the underwriting management framework.

Key Responsibilities


  • To support the Underwriting Performance Manager, contributing analytical insight, performance monitoring of Asta Clients against key performance indicators, coordinating planning submissions, and supporting interactions with clients and Lloyd’s.
  • Generate and evaluate necessary management information as needed, especially for board reports. Retrieve and process data from appropriate data warehouses to create new reports.
  • Liaise with Asta clients for operational and analytical requests from Asta clients and Lloyd's within the portfolios. Support relationship management with Lloyd’s by preparing materials, tracking queries, and providing background analysis ahead of meetings.
  • Support the coordination and delivery of the Lloyd’s business planning process across a defined portfolio of syndicates. Validate submissions, and ensure completeness, accuracy, and alignment with Lloyd’s requirements. Assist in drafting narrative components, performance summaries, and data explanations for planning submissions. Maintain documentation and logs relating to data queries and resolutions.
  • Help create underwriting narratives, performance summaries, and data explanations for planning submissions. Keep records and logs of data queries and how they are resolved.
  • Gather, validate, and format data inputs received from Asta managed clients, and internal teams to support accurate portfolio performance assessments. Highlighting key trends.
  • Producing regulatory underwriting returns for Lloyd’s, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and timely submission. Liaise with clients to gather inputs, address queries, and ensure compliance with reporting standards
  • Oversee assistants when necessary. Collaborate with the team to share updates, coordinate tasks, and meet deadlines. Coordinate with Asta functions to supply underwriting data.
  • Continuously improve analytical and technical skills (Excel, data tools, Lloyd’s systems) to enhance team contributions.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise


  • Several years experience in Insurance, ideally working in underwriting, actuarial or finance, operations.
  • An understanding of how a Lloyd’s syndicate operates within the market and as part of a managing agency and good commercial knowledge of the Lloyd’s market.
  • Confident analytical skills, ideally several years work experience as an Analyst; reporting, scrutinising data, quality checking information, building dashboards etc.
  • Strong external stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Willingness to study towards professional qualification (CII) is preferred.
  • Demonstrates strong numeracy skills and consistently delivers precise work within strict deadlines.
  • Maintaining accuracy and precision is crucial.
  • Confident verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage senior management, clients, and regulators.
  • Can prioritise tasks and work with the team to meet deadlines.
  • Handles issues independently and escalates to management when necessary.
  • Motivated to develop skills and committed to ongoing learning.
  • Skilled in teamwork and building strong relationships.
