Keoghs Scotland are seeking to recruit a solicitor to join our expanding Glasgow Casualty team. You will handle a varied caseload of litigated casualty cases (Defender) for large insurers and self-insured corporates and will assist Associates and Partners in the day to day running of the team. It is preferable that applicants will have experience of All Scotland Personal Injury Court cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Running own case load of mainly post‑litigation defender EL and PL files
  • Drafting advice to Insurers and Corporate Clients
  • Drafting pleadings/court documents
  • Adhering to court deadlines and managing files in accordance with court timetables and Client SLA’s
  • Review and analysis of relevant documents and assessing liability and quantum in claims
  • Investigating liability and securing witness and documentary evidence
  • Instructing experts where required
  • Liaising with clients/other insurers/third parties
  • Liaising with policyholders and witnesses
  • Negotiating settlements
  • Court appearance work if desired
  • Instructing and working with Counsel
  • Assisting Partners and other members of the team where required
  • Assisting in business development initiatives, including drafting of articles, blog pieces, e‑shots and presentations and attendance at relevant events

Working Hours

35 hours per week Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch (although flexibility is offered). Primary location for this role is the Glasgow Office although hybrid working is offered and there will be a combination of office and remote working. 1 day office per week is the expectation.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Litigation and personal injury experience (preferably defender)
  • Experience of work in the All Scotland Personal Injury Court
  • Team player

  • Excellent forensic skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and to work under pressure
  • Previous experience of time recording is preferable
  • The ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Previous experience of EL and PL claims is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided
