Costs Negotiator (Complex Injury)

Description
To review, assess and negotiate settlement of costs matters in our complex injury team and deal with all procedural aspects and pleadings until settlement or assessment of costs. To provide costs advice to clients and the main teams, and to negotiate costs on a variety of matters delivering savings for our clients.
It is important that the job holder can quickly review files & formulate initial costs strategy, provide comprehensive advice to clients, commence early telephone negotiations with other side and liaise, as required, with Insurers throughout the life of the file.
You need to be able to build strong working relationships with both your colleagues in Costs and with the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
- File Review: Analyse files, set strategies, and document insights.
- Cost Strategy: Prepare and update cost strategy reports.
- Caseload Management: Maintain accurate records using our case management system.
- Client Updates: Provide clear updates to clients on case progress.
- Cost Negotiation: Review and negotiate end-of-life costs
- Drafting and tactics: draft effective and bespoke Points of Dispute, review replies and provide tactical advice on the Detailed Assessment process.
- Task Delegation: Delegate tasks to team members effectively.
- Periodic Reviews: Conduct regular file reviews to meet client needs.
- Communication: Handle correspondence and calls smoothly.
- Performance Targets: Achieve and exceed performance goals, including a chargeable hours target and client SLAs
- Application Drafting: Draft and oppose applications, instruct Counsel or Costs Lawyers
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Cost Negotiation: Experienced in negotiating costs and handling disputes.
- Education: 3 GCSEs (grade 5/C or above) in Maths and English.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal skills, with client liaison experience.
- Telephone Negotiation: Effective at securing favourable outcomes.
- Caseload Management: Efficiently handles own caseload, meeting targets.
- Initiative: Proactive and resourceful.
- Planning: Expert in prioritizing workloads.
- Listening: Excellent listening skills.
- Decision-Making: Confident under pressure.
- Teamwork: Collaborative and supportive.
- IT Proficiency: Skilled in using technology.
Desirable:
- Education – Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD or equivalent.
