The Accounts Trainee will work across multiple areas of the finance function on a rotational basis. This structure ensures a well‑rounded understanding of the department’s operations and provides a strong foundation for progression. Full training will be provided in each area, with responsibilities developing over time as competence increases. The successful candidate will also be supported in commencing AAT studies following completion of probation.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the daily maintenance of cash collection records, including updating internal spreadsheets and preparing simple summary reports.
  • Processing incoming payments and accurately allocating cash to the appropriate sales invoices across the firm’s systems.
  • Supporting routine reconciliations and ensuring discrepancies are flagged promptly to senior team members.
  • Monitoring the dedicated inbox for deposit-related notifications and ensuring items are directed or actioned promptly.
  • Supporting the matching and processing of official fee deductions and assisting in addressing any related internal queries.
  • Completing administrative tasks associated with deposit account top‑ups, including preparing listings and assisting with payment coordination.
  • Assisting with write‑off processing where required, following guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Coding and processing supplier invoices (chargeable and non‑chargeable) and ensuring accuracy of financial data, including occasional processing of French‑language invoices.
  • Assisting with periodic payment runs and completing standard approval checks.
  • Supporting the reconciliation of supplier statements and helping maintain orderly records within the firm’s document management system.
  • Contributing to routine bank reconciliation activities and assisting with periodic petty cash checks.
  • Posting routine journal entries under the direction of senior members of the finance team.
  • Assisting with housekeeping tasks related to financial control accounts, including monitoring outstanding items and ensuring records remain up to date.
  • Maintaining clear, accurate documentation within the firm’s digital filing system.
  • Assisting with the distribution or coordination of occasional cheque-related tasks.
  • Providing ad‑hoc support to other members of the finance team as required, particularly during peak periods.

Key Requirements

  • Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and competence with Excel.
  • Clear and confident communication skills.
  • Ability to organise workload and manage tasks to deadlines.
  • Proactive, reliable, and willing to learn.
  • AAT Level 2 desirable; commitment to initiating AAT studies is expected.
  • French language skills beneficial but not required.
