Our client is seeking a Senior Underwriting Performance Analyst to play a key role in overseeing and improving underwriting performance across a portfolio of Lloyd’s syndicates. This is a blended role — combining strong analytical capability with regular engagement with stakeholders across managing agents, syndicates and Lloyd’s. Reporting to the Underwriting Performance Manager, you’ll help shape performance insight, support the Lloyd’s business planning cycle, and contribute to regulatory reporting, ensuring clients operate within a robust underwriting management framework.
This role will suit someone who enjoys turning analysis into clear narrative, is comfortable building relationships, and can act as a trusted point of contact rather than operating purely as a technical specialist.
What you’ll do:- Partner closely with the Underwriting Performance Manager to interpret underwriting performance across a portfolio tracking results against plan and KPIs, diagnosing variances, and clearly articulating risks and opportunities.
- Act as a day‑to‑day contact for managed clients and Lloyd’s, responding to operational and analytical queries, preparing materials, and providing clear context ahead of meetings.
- Support the Lloyd’s business planning process validating submissions, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and helping shape performance commentary and narrative that stands up to challenge.
- Produce monitoring packs and dashboards that support portfolio oversight, working with MI & Analytics to continuously improve reporting quality, usability and automation.
- Assist with regulatory underwriting returns, liaising with clients to gather inputs, resolve queries and ensure timely, high‑quality submissions.
- Participate in portfolio governance forums and, where required, represent or deputise for the Underwriting Performance Manager in discussions with stakeholders.
- Contribute to internal projects and working groups linked to underwriting performance and Lloyd’s market developments.
- Provide guidance and informal oversight to analysts or assistants, sharing best practice and supporting capability development across the team.
- 3+ years’ experience in insurance, ideally within underwriting, portfolio management, actuarial, finance, operations or performance teams.
- A solid understanding of the Lloyd’s market and how syndicates operate within a managing agency environment.
- Strong analytical skills, paired with the ability to explain performance clearly and confidently to non‑technical audiences.
- Proven stakeholder experience comfortable engaging with senior management, clients and Lloyd’s, and able to build credibility through clear communication.
- Strong written skills, with experience contributing to performance commentary, planning submissions or governance material.
- Well organised and proactive, able to balance competing priorities and manage work across multiple stakeholders.
- Sound judgement able to progress issues independently and recognise when escalation is needed.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence picking up new systems; experience with MI/BI tools is beneficial but not essential.
