Davies Crane Ltd is one of the largest independent Crane Hire Companies in Wales with a varied fleet in excess of 100 vehicles. Established in 1979, we continue to grow through our reputation and ‘can do’ attitude. To support our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated SHEQ Officer to join our team, covering the South Wales region working between our Carmarthen, Cardiff, Port Talbot and Milford Haven depots.

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health and Safety Officer to support and maintain a safe, healthy and compliant working environment across the business. The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing and monitoring health, safety, environmental and quality policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and company requirements.

Working closely with management teams and employees, the Health and Safety Officer will identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, investigate incidents, deliver training and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, a strong understanding of SHEQ legislation and best practice and the ability to influence positive safety behaviours at all levels of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote and embed a positive SHEQ culture throughout the business.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, client requirements and company policies.
  • Maintain and continuously improve management systems aligned to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
  • Lead the implementation and certification process for ISO 45001.
  • Manage non-conformance processes and drive corrective and preventative actions.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and compliance monitoring activities.
  • Support managers and supervisors in developing safe systems of work.
  • Monitor SHEQ performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead accident, incident and near-miss investigation, including root cause analysis.
  • Support the completing and review of risk assessments and mitigation plans.
  • Produce SHEQ reports, performance insights and improvement recommendations.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers and clients.
  • Lead internal safety meetings.
About You
  • Previous experience in a SHEQ, Health & Safety or HSE role with the construction industry.
  • IOSH and/or NEBOSH qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of SHEQ legislation, regulations and industry best practices.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and general IT skills.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Experience working with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Internal and/or external auditing experience.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives and management system development.
